Hi

I would really appreciate some advice. I would like to get a real hair wig and would be grateful if anyone could recommend a reputable company where I could get one from. Thanks so much Nicola

  • Hi Nictx,

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome back I see that you are on other groups. I hope you are finding it helpful. I’m Kate one of the Cancer Information Nurses here on the Macmillan Support Line

There is a large variety of different types of wigs available to what would suit you best. Human hair wigs may be made up of hair from a few people. This means it may be made up of different hair types, which are often bleached and then dyed. Human Hair wigs can often cost from a few hundred to a few thousand pounds and are not usually available on the NHS.

We are not able to recommend a supplier, but we would advise speaking to your chemotherapy team. Sometimes they have a wig supplier and may be able to supply you with a real hair wig but also give you advice on how to care for a wig. They may know of a real hair wig supplier locally who they can recommend.

It is important to find a supplier who is experienced in advising people with hair loss and those going through cancer treatments.

I hope this information is useful. Please don’t hesitate to get back in contact by email, webchat or phone, if you need further information or support.
