still waiting for hair to fall out!

Less than one minute read time.

2 weeks after first chemo and apart from first 3 days have felt absolutely fine which I appreciate and am so grateful for, make the most of any good days. But I worry all the time about if and when my hair will start falling out, I used the coldcap and sometimes manage to convince myself I will be one of the lucky ones and not loose it then I read others comments about losing it 2 weeks after their first chemo and worry and then my scalp starts to feel different or is that because my hair will be on the floor shortly?

I know in the scheme of things hair is not that important but I think its the not knowing that is driving me mad!!!

Also worrying about my hair means I can put the thought of chemo next Wednesday to be back of mind.

    Hi

If you are using cold cap chances are you'll keep your hair even if it thins, though as you probably know there are no guarantees. Most of those that you hear of losing hair a couple of weeks in, like myself, are the ones that didn't use it at all.

Good Luck with your treatment and keeping your hair.

    Hi Pauline,

Yes it is not a nice thing to lose all your hair

unfortunately it comes with the treatment, its one

of those side effects that some people get, and some people are lucky and it dosent happen. It could be your one of the lucky ones only time will tell. All the best and good luck.

Take care and be safe Big Hugs Love Sarsfield.xx

It would be nice if your hair doesnt fall out especially if you are using a coldcap.  However if it does, it really isnt the end of the world.  I know you think it will feel like it.

I thought it would be because I have always had the thickest, lovely hair but never appreciated it until I lost it all.  I just couldnt imagine being without my own hair.  Mine started to go limp first of all and was unmanageable, then it started to come out and it was EVERYWHERE!

Ive always had it short but got it shaved to a number 3 or 4 and then it just came out in clumps which was horrible.  I couldnt look in the mirror without having my hair covered.  The rest of my hair then fell out really quickly.

However just had my 4th chemo and that all happened just after number 1.  I have accepted it now - have bought 4 wigs altogether - a couple from an ethnic sort of shop that sells wigs and where they weave hairpieces into the girls' hair - they were £20 each and then I got another one all the way from China via ebay and it only cost me a £1 with £12.90 postage.  The wigs I have are really great and honestly no one realises they arent real.

Even one of my friends thought I had had my hair cut and coloured because she only saw the wig I had bought recently from China which was similar to my own hair.

I must admit I dont like seeing myself without hair so wear a hat to do my make up etc and dont let anyone else see me without hair.

Please, please dont despair because as the course of the chemo goes along you know it wont be long before it starts growing again.

    Lots of luck

If your using the cold cap, then you shouldn't lose your hair, although it's not a certainty, it may thin, good luck with all your treatment
