starting fec chemo next week

Less than one minute read time.

Saw my oncologist yesterday and starting chemo next week which I am terrified about. Have to decide today whether to try the cold cap or not and am really confused. How life changes the only cap I've ever had on my head was when I used to have hilights done, those were the days!

hiya, i have recently been through TAC chemo and i had the same fears and anxieties before my treatment started. I decided i would try the cold cap....even though apparently, hair loss can still happen. But the day before my treatment started, i decided against it! I can understand your confusion, everyone is different with different outcomes on using the cold cap. But with hindsight, it was the right decision for me, not to use it. Yes, ive lost all my hair, except for a few stands! And yes, it was quite traumatic going through the process, but the thought of wearing that cap, and putting myself through that amount of discomfort, and still maybe losing my hair anyway, kinda swayed my decision!

    Hi Pauline,

If I was you, I would go by what my Consultant thought was best for me. But at the end of the day it will be your choice. Whichever you choose I hope it works for you. All the best and Good Luck.

Take care and be safe Big Hugs Love Sarsfield.xx

I didn't bother with a cold cap forst time round nor have I thought about it this time. In fact I didn't wait for my hair to fall oout I shaved it off! The thing that put me off the cold cap was when I realised how much longer the chemo session would take. I just want to get in, get it done and get out! (Hospitals aren't my favourite places!!!)

Don't get too worried about the chemo... it isn't as bad as you think

    Take care

I'm the same as jazz, didn't have cold cap either had fec first time taxotere this time, I also shaved my head and pre empted it, everyone is different, and the cold cap works to different degrees, it is one of those things that only you can decide, good luck, and although chemo sucks, it can save your life, and it is never quite as bad as you expect it to be...... Good luck
