Wednesday 27th March 7th day post 2nd Paclitaxel

1 minute read time.

Last night was horrendous Tired face my feet, ankles & knees all hurt. My fingers and toes tingled then later it felt like my toenails were being pulled out, and my left hip hurt and during the night I was woken with the feeling of a knife cutting my left thigh open. I didn't know what to do. I can't understand why after the EC and Filgrastim giving no problems it's so bad with the Paclitaxel.

I phoned chemo nurses today for advice and I have been advised to try and take paracetamol regularly throughout today, and tonight to try the codeine and some Naproxen that I have been prescribed by my GP for back problems. I have been told to be watchful for bleeding etc and to call I get any problems. I always check with the chemo nurses before taking any medicines as I know things can cause problems. I'm hoping this works for me. I have been told that I should mention everything to oncologist next week as there maybe something else that can be tried for my final 2 chemo sessions.

Fingers crossed this all works. Remember to always check with chemo nurses before taking any medication.

  • That sounds horrendous Alison. Hope you have a better night. I had awful aching with Docetaxel 1 and so I’m not looking forward to my next session next week. Good advice about checking before taking any meds.
The chemo effects are so unpredictable and just keep changing. Only 2 more to go now so hope your oncologist finds something more suitable for you.

  • Hi Kaza sorry to hear you have had awful aching with your first Docetaxel, do you have Filgrastim injections too. I'm going to ask for something stronger, or maybe they will change me to pegfilgrast. I forgot to say nurse said to try hotwater bottle, hubby said did you tell her you haven't got one that big Rofl.

Hope your second one goes OK, don't sit and suffer, let the department know if your having problems xx

  • Good luck, I hope the extra drugs help.

  • Thanks Dignatee

The naproxen didn't do very much. I have now been given Morphine to try when I have my next chemo. Xx

  • I grew to hate chemo; I had 4 cycles over three months at the end of last year. Unfortunately, the cancer ignored the chemo and grew a bit more. I had five weeks of radio from January and into February (scans next week to review) and I was immensely sore at the end, and I was given a bottle of morphine to take home to help with pain relief. It helped, but I was quite cautious with it, as it is truly addictive. I was also tag-teaming paracetamol and ibuprofen, one or the other every couple of hours up to the maximum daily dose. Good luck, I really hope it works. Pain is so tiring. I'm in good shape right now, which is lovely but mega-surgery may be looming.
