    As you may or may not be aware, I have a trip coming up. Since Laing died, I have done weekends in Venice (twice), Zurich and Berlin, all special places for us.

    I have my first long haul flight coming up soon, a trip across the pond. I cannot abide the thought of sitting next to anybody on a long flight, so I am paying big bucks to be alone. No, not a private jet, but what a thought! I didn't even consider that option…

    In recent days I have been sleeping on top of the bed most of the time. The duvet has found alternative temporary accommodation. I have had the air blower blowing air at me in bed, but it hasn't made an ounce of difference, sleeping has been hell. It would have been with or without Laing.   • Gazpacho and food matters

    Well I tried the gazpacho on Sunday and I must admit to being pleasantly surprised. Maybe it needed a little more olive oil to take away the rasp as it went down the throat, but it was still more than acceptable nonetheless. I've had worse (and much better) in restaurants in Andalucia. The croutons weren't a total disaster. I needed a thicker slice of bread and it can't be bread that is the soft pre sliced variety. It…
