Coffee, cake and catching up with the Community

Lots of us enjoy an occasional treat. Whatever you’re going through, it’s good to have something to look forward to.

September is the month of the famous World’s Biggest Coffee Morning where people all over the world get together whilst fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support.

In celebration of coffee mornings everywhere, in this Community News Blog we will be exploring the Community’s love of baking and getting together.

What’s your favourite treat?

Earlier in the year, Community member Mum started a baking thread, sharing a photo of their freshly baked chocolate mocha muffins. We thought they looked so delicious that we have used their image to accompany this blog.

Lots of members joined in the conversation to share their own baking and cake eating preferences.

We’d all love to hear about your favourite treat. We’ve started this new thread in the Express Yourself forum where you can share all your favourite cakes, bakes and edible makes. If you prefer savoury or a no-bake make, all contributions are welcome.

What if treats are a struggle right now?

If you’re struggling with side effects, or following a strict diet for medical reasons, you might not want to think about cake or treats right now.

Whatever your needs, it might help to discuss your diet and feelings about food on the Community. There's lots of people here who understand what you're going through, as they may have been there themselves. In a recent discussion, members shared tips for coping with nausea. If you need some ideas, or want to share your tips, we'd love to hear from you.

Keeping busy with baking

How beautiful is this Community member's homemade chocolate cake (pictured right). Delicious!

In a recent discussion in the breast cancer forum, members shared ways to keep busy at home.  Some people find cooking and baking to be relaxing, but if it's not for you there are lots of other suggestions around keeping your mind occupied. You can read the full thread by clicking on the links following the quotes above.

Getting together

Whether you are on 'team coffee and croissant' or 'team tea and cake', enjoying a treat together can be a good way of meeting up and spending time with family, friends or in the Community. If you’re able to get out and about, we’d love you to share what you’ve been getting up to.

It doesn't matter if you haven't baked yourself, we're keen to hear about all the treats and meets you're enjoying.

Local Support

An illustration of a cupcake with a bite taken out of itA few members have posted about local face-to-face support groups recently. You might also be looking for a cancer support group in your surrounding area. Others might benefit from community groups that help support carers, family members and loved ones.

Join in the conversation

Do you attend a local group, or have you ever thought about starting a regular meet up? You could even arrange a virtual meet up on the Community. Just agree a date and time with other members and join the chat thread with a cuppa.

If you'd like to share your favourite treat, ways of keeping busy, or finding support in your local Community, we'd love to hear from you!
