A few of us on here are having problems with the DWP. Harass your MP, just google their name and you should find an e-mail adress. The MPs' make the rules so give them the stick.

    Best of luck,  Bill.

Hello there dont think we have spoke before, just read your blog and wanted to reply.

I second what you say about benefits.    I have worked all my life and now when im seriously ill and you cant be as on top of things as you used to be the bloody welfare system lets you down.    I m a single parent to a 17 year old daughter, have had to stop work through no fault of my own, only get SSP dont qualify for income support cos i get maintenance from her dad, am trying to claim council tax benefit, and what they have asked for as proof is unbelieveable, do they think people would lie about this disease, they even wanted proof of my first visits to hospital before diagnosis cos i have asked for it to be backdated, what an insult eh?  Like you i have had three ops in 6 weeks, having radio and chemo for 6 weeks only into the second week but feel like total shit already, i can so relate to what you are saying, its good to rant and get it off our chests aint it?

The only helpful people regarding this benefit thing is the Macmillan Info Centre at my hospital, good luck to you and probs spk soon to see how its going.

    Love

This time last year was the start of my cancer journey and I can honestly say the cancer I could deal with but the financial situation it left me in was horrendous!  I have never felt suicidal in my life but at one point it seemed to be a tempting option.  My ssp ran out, housing benefit didn't want to know and I genuinley thought I was going to be homeless by Christmas.  All because my name is on the mortgage of the marital house I left 3 years ago!!  I couldn't get any DWP dept to understand that it was bricks and mortar, NOT money in my account.  I was not strong enough emotionally or physically to do the things they demanded I do ie force a sale on the house ( my husband suffers from depression - one of the reasons for me finally leaving after 30 yrs of marriage).  They couldn't understand that if I did this he would get depressed,  lose his job and then HE would be on benefit!!!  PLUS the housing market was not the best time to sell.  I never received a penny in Jobseeker's allowance once I felt well enough to return to work again because of the house. I have appealed against this decision and my hearing is tomorrow so wish me luck!  I resented being made to feel I was a liar and a thief whenever I asked for help. MacMillan were brilliant though and they managed to get me a grant that really took some of the pressure off with paying my rent.

    You have my sympathies!

    Take care

Same story here too,  Claimed for DLA in June, just received letter dated 28th august, informing me that they were going to write to consultant to confirm my claim.  Requested that should my condition improve or deteriorate to inform them.  At this rate will be back at work -hopefully in New Year- before they make a decision.  Also informed by DWP that not eligible for employment and wages support allowance as despite working and paying full stamp for 37 years not eligible for anything as not paid enough contributions. For two years quoted on claim(2007-8), I paid just under £5000.  On querying this, was info that according to their records havent paid anything.  This appartently is due to Inland Revenue not updating their records! And this is 2009!

Just what you need when you already have enought to cope with.

Wishing you luck, and keep fighting but more importantly smiling,

    Love Marilyn x

As previously said the DWP are a load of plonkers just looking for ways to get out of paying you your dues. They have not taken it upon themselves to be unhelpfull but are acting on govt. ministers instructions. Most MP's are unaware of how bad the situation is and are actually shocked when certain things are pointed out to them. Give your MP stick !!! make him understand our plight.  My local Labour MP was'nt amused when I pointed out that I would expect a Tory Govt. to be dishonest and unsympathetic, NOT 'caring, sharing New Labour'. When I appealed against the decision not to award me ESA the appeal judge, a very sympathetic, genuine guy pointed out that the only circumstances he could award me ESA under was, if I had a TERMINAL prognosis and had LESS than 6 months to live. Otherwise I was expected to find 'suitable employment' despite my GP advising me to stay off work. What a humane, caring bunch the DWP are. Keep bothering your MP, tell them to brush up on benefit guidelines and make this heartless government sit up.

A lot of us have/have had cancer and would be a powerfull force on election days.

    Good luck, Bill.
