My tumours have been selected

Less than one minute read time.
When I saw the Oncologist this week, he asked if I would agree to allow my tumours to be used in research. Obviously I said yes as anything that helps in the advancement of research has to be a good thing. My consultant and I signed a consent form and I also had to donate two large vials of blood so that they can extract my DNA and presumably other things. As I've been a good girl so far, I wasn't concerned about my DNA being extracted. I filled out a questionnaire giving details of my nearest and dearest, and whether they had cancer. So in honour of my tumours' achievement I have decided to name them, Bill and Frank (they had to be male as they gave me so much bother!). I hope that Bill and Frank go on to achieve great things and that they provide another piece of the puzzle that helps in the fight against this disease. I was informed that they are doing a large study into bowel cancer that will involve 20,000 patients. Has anyone else been asked to donate? Angela x

Hope Bill and Frank are successful helping in the fight.  Hope your chemo is going ok. Just read some of your story.  My husband did four rounds of the same treatment on a trial.  First CT since diagnosis at end of this month and results in October.

    Best wishes

Lynda, I hope your husband's chemo has been successful. Do let me know. I am scheduled to have 8 cycles of chemo, so won't be finished until February.

I certainly hope Bill and Frank help the researchers find something new, they need to make amends for the distress and anguish they have caused!

    Take care

    Hi Angela,

I'll let you know how he gets on.  I'm getting more anxious now than at most times during this journey but I've no reason to think it will be other than good news.  I find myself listening to his breathing, wondering if he's wheezing, or wondering if he should be dosing off to sleep so often, or today I thought he was walking a bit oddly but he said he's jarred his neck and assures me he is fine.  He definitely looks well again and is probably gaining a bit too much weight.  He's even started college at 50+ to train as a plumber......says he might as well be near what he needs...lol.

    Take care
