I'm 72, started bleeding Christmas day for a few days then again at New Year, from the first I have had really bad pains and I've had them every single day since.  First doctors appointment I could get was Jan 6th, sent for Ultrasound, who then referred me to Gynae,  eventually referred for hysteroscopy under general anaesthesia,  I was told lining was 16mm which I now realise from this forum is not good. I had the hysteroscopy last week on 7th May,  Gynaecologist took several biopsys and told me it looks suspicious, they also put in a Minetva coil,  it's looking like endometrial cancer but have to wait for results. I'm utterly terrified and the waiting is awful. I'm worried too about the delay from Christmas day till now, and that's just to get the hysteroscopy

  • Hi, it's not been that long but if you are worried, you could always contact the hospital or your GP to expidite things. Good luck.

  • Thank you yes I might do that

  • Hi Annousks

    Welcome to the Womb group.

I am sorry to hear that you have had some bleeding and needed the hysteroscopy/biopsies.

I understand that it is a scary time when you may potentially have some cancer present. The waiting to find out is really hard. My biopsy results took around a week and hopefully yours will not take too much longer.

I can understand your worry about the wait from your first bleed to having a potential diagnosis but on the whole endometrial cancer (if present) does tend to be slow growing if at low grade. The main thing now is that you have had the biopsies done and should know for sure what you are dealing with soon. The mirena coil will already be starting to have an effect, if there is cancer there.

There can be different causes for post menopausal bleeding and hyperplasia (thickened lining) and cancer is just one of them. If cancer is present then endometrial cancer is normally a very treatable cancer. First line treatment is normally a hysterectomy (if medically possible) and if the cancer is contained, that may be the only treatment needed.

I know it is really hard to wait to find out- I felt a bit in limbo really and worried about what may lay ahead. If it would help to talk things through please do give the Support Line a call.
