Hi

im 56 and was sent to 2ww clinic for lost menopausal bleeding 2 weeks ago, had t vag scan which showed thickening if lining , hysteroscopy showed large polyp which they removed .

Ive now been given follow up appointment as the polyp biopsy was suspicious of endometrial intra epithelial neoplasia …. Am I right in thinking this is the same as atypical endometrial hypertrophy ?

Anyone else had this situation and what was the outcome? I’m guessing hysterectomy is suggested due to the ongoing risk of developing cancer ?

also they’ve said I may need another hysteroscopy next week at the appointment Astonished it took me days to get over last one .

im grateful for any input from you lovely ladies

thanks x

  • Hi, did you ask for pain relief for your last hysteroscopy? I always have local anaesthetic and gas & air. Doesn't work for everyone but works for me every time I need one, due to having a coil/hormone treatment instead of surgery. Hope you get it all sorted soon.

  • Thanks . I had gas and air. It’s still a bit brutal isn’t it x

  • Hi AppleScruff

    Welcome to the Womb group.

I am sorry to hear that you have had some bleeding and the resulting biopsy showed some intra epithelia neoplasia.

Hyperplasia (thickened lining) can be different types and some are more concerning than others. The important factor is that some can in time lead to cancer developing. So at the moment it is showing a possible precancer and they are suggesting a possible further hysteroscopy/biopsy to make sure they are being thorough and to get a clearer picture.

Where there is a chance that cancer could develop in the future a hysterectomy may be recommended. But this will be something that they can talk you through at your appointment.

If it would help, give the Support Line a call and talk it through with one of the nurses.

I hope your appointment goes ok next week.

  • Hi,

You do have the right to have a general anaesthetic, although it may delay the hysteroscopy date, and you will probably need to go for pre-surgery blood tests and MRSA swab. I had a GA for a hysteroscopy and polypectomy. Took less than 15 minutes, and I recovered really quickly. X
