I got called back today to talk about results of a polyopectamy and womb biopsy. I have pre cancerous cells and they recommend a hysterectomy. It was all a big shock. I'm 44, don't have children and while I never expected to have any this is hard.
I have pcos and it looks like elevated estrogen and weight are the likely cause so now I'm freaking out that I could have other pre-cancerous cells elsewhere that I don't know about.
Hi Anag
Welcome to the womb group.
I am sorry to hear that they have found some pre cancerous cells after your biopsy and that they are recommending a hysterectomy. I understand that this has come as a shock and it is natural to have worries that there may be other precancerous cells elsewhere. I know for me when I had my diagnosis I worried about every little niggle, in case it meant something.
I think the thing to remember is that they have found the problem at the earliest possible stage where it is still a precancer and they are suggesting treatment to hopefully prevent it from ever becoming a cancer. My hysterectomy was in 2022 and was done via key hole. It was a straight forward surgery and recovery. I had little pain and was in hospital one night. I could do most things once home it was more a case of not lifting anything too heavy and no twisting type movements.
It is obviously difficult to think about a surgery that you were not expecting to have so if it would help to talk things through do give the Support Line a call. A hysterectomy is the normal first line treatment for endometrial cancer so the vast majority of ladies on here will have had the surgery and will be able to offer support. If there is anything you want to ask about, then please do.

One thing I'm wondering about is what hormone support people had after (if any) I have pcos and my hormones are already out of wack they usually recommend a iud implant or the pill but these options will no longer be applicable.
They are recommending I keep the ovaries so they will continue to wreak their havoc with my mood and insulin resistance. Are there any others with a similar experience?
I’m 56 and just had polyp biopsy results of pre cancerous changes too . I have a review appointment next week to discuss management. I’d rather just have the hysterectomy tbh rather than the worry of it developing over time , but im older than you .
xx
I just had my follow up with a specialist I'm going to have the op. They wanted to take my ovaries as well but I've decided to keep them. If they find actual cancer cells after the op I might need a second op to remove the ovaries but Id rather take the chance at a normal menopause. If I get the lot taken and it's all still pre cancer I will be gutted I didn't keep them.
Because I have pcos and am overweight I have some extra risk.
I'd be interested to know if anyone has done a similar thing and what the outcome was
