carcinosarcoma diagnosis

I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis of endometrial cancer. I understand that it is a scary time and we are here to support you. 

I was treated for carcinoma sarcoma in 2022. I am doing ok 4 years after surgery and 3 1/2 years since the end of treatment. 

Carcinoma sarcoma put simply is a cancer where there is a mix of cancer cells- some carcinoma cells and some sarcoma cells. It is not the same as uterine sarcoma. 

Carcinoma sarcoma is treated the same as endometrial cancer because it tends to respond to the same treatment. 

After a diagnosis of any cancer the MRI and/or CT scan is done to stage the cancer. From that the doctors have a provisional stage and grade. Surgery is the first line treatment for endometrial cancer, where it is medically possible. 

After surgery, it is the post op results that will confirm the final stage and grade and also are important factors in deciding whether any follow up treatment is needed. My cancer was early stage but I did need follow up treatment.

My hysterectomy was straightforward. I had little pain and was in hospital for one night. I recovered well from the surgery.

I hope that your scans can be done quickly and you get further clarification about your treatment plan. It can feel very overwhelming to have a diagnosis and things for me felt a bit in limbo for a while. Once I had my treatment plan and knew what would happen and when, things felt more manageable.

Welcome to this group. You’re in good hands here. Do you have a date for your scans? I know everyone says it, but things are more manageable when you have a treatment plan , so hang in there

Hiya, having mri scan on Tuesday and seeing if they can do a ct scan on the same day if they can't they said it'll be within 10 days.

Good luck for Tuesday, fingers crossed they can fit the CT scan in as well.

Not sure if you are aware, but the hospital will have an MDT (multi disciplinary team) that will review results before getting back to you. They tend to meet on a set day each week, varies by hospital. Do you know which day your MDT meet?

O think they meet on a Wednesday 

So hopefully if they can fit the Ct scan in this week, you should have results the following Weds…..fingers crossed

Welcome to this group which is full of wonderful supportive women who are going through or have already gone through a cancer diagnosis and treatment. It can be a scary place to be but there’s lots of support, either from this forum or from the McMillan helpline who helped me through the last few months. 
I did feel better after I’d had the MRI and CT scan and the team could tell me the stage and grade of the cancer and plan the treatment. Take care of yourself and please ask any questions
