Hi hello I’m new here and to be honest I’m struggling to find my way around !! Anyway I am in panic mode as have my biopsy booked for tomorrow afternoon and as it gets closer and closer I have decided that I really need a GA as I am so scared and can’t stop crying. I wondered if anyone had experienced the same issue. I originally started HRT due to severe post menopausal anxiety so this is difficult. I am sorry to bother you all as you all have your own problems to deal with x

  • Hi, if you’ve decided you want it under GA you can just ask for this - it will need to be arranged separately, but it’s your right to have that if you want. My hysteroscopy under GA was about a month after my failed hysteroscopy.

  • Thank you - this has given me so much more confidence. It seems barbaric to expect women to go through this.

  • I approached it feeling like I wanted it under GA but also thinking I wanted to give it a go. So I did and it didn’t work - the consultant stopped it as he was concerned for me. But if I’d said on arrival that I wanted to reschedule it under GA they’d have done that for me.

  • You have been a great help as I was feeling that it was out of my control and I can see now that I have options. It’s crazy really that when you are in panic mode you can’t think clearly! I was also worried about asking to reschedule and wasting everyone’s time but tbh the letter I received after having scans just said it was a gynaecology outpatient appointment. It was the nurse at my GP surgery that said it would probably include a biopsy. I am the sort of person that needs to know all the information beforehand.

  • Hi Figgy

When I went for my first gynae appointment I was booked for a hysteroscopy however the consultant gave me 2 options I could have it then or rebook for a general anaesthetic. I decided to go for it then but if you want a general you won’t be wasting anyone’s time. The doctor will be gathering information about you and explaining things as part of the process. It’s your body and you can choose how the biopsy is done. I hope it goes well and you are reassured by the doctor.

  • Thank you so much for your kind words and common sense. Was yours an NHS appointment? I am about to leave for the hospital and already feel calmer thanks to the lovely people on this site xxx

  • Mine was NHS (at UHS Southampton)

  • Hi it was exactly how you and Linda said it would be. The Consultant said thats perfectly ok and has said it will be within 2 weeks xxx

  • Mine is NHS too at Plymouth

  • Well done Figgy I know how hard that must have been for you to ask for a general but remember it’s your body! Let us know how you get on with it.
