Hi all new to this group. Not new to Macmillan though as been going through breast cancer treatment last 12 months all clear with that (at the mo) as cautious to everything now just finishing my target therapy (last one December) was taking tamoxifen but oncologist has stopped for now due to constant spotting (nearly 4 weeks nowUnamused)  had ultrasound and transvaginal done and went to see gynacologist last week I have thickening on my endometrial lining of 16-17cm and where I thought I had one cyst on my ovary (after speaking to gyno nurse) she has told me there is quite a lot of cysts there. I'm waiting on a letter for a hysteroscopy which im dreading as heard they are very painful aswell as worrying like mad as they doing biopsy too. Only just gone through 12 month anniversary with my breast cancer diagnosis and now feel like it's starting again. I'm in limbo at the mo as don't have a clue what's going on and not really anybody to talk to who understands and don't like to worry people once again!! I had to have blood test before I left my gynacology appointment what does this check?

  • ca125 of 18 is normal and not to be concerned about.

Biopsies are done routinely during hysteroscopies and are being done because of the womb lining is thicker than they would like. The hyperplasia (thickened lining) can be of different types. One type may resolve in time by itself and is not a cause for concern. One type could lead to a risk of cancer developing in the future and needs treatment. They need to do the biopsy to make sure there is no cancer present that could be causing the thickening.

For post menopausal ladies any thickness of over 5 mm would result in further investigation as a thickened lining may increase the risk of a cancer being found. So they need to rule this out. So for a lining of  16/17 cm - this would be a standard investigation.

  • I always have pain relief whenever I need a biopsy. You can have either local anaesthetic and/or gas & air, which really helps...

  • Hi Mum45 , have something to eat before hystopsopy and take some painkillers before hand. Pain is like period pain but not as bad as labour . I had a fantastic nurse who chatted to me throughout  the whole process .Wear something loose and cool and a comfy bra top. Lisa

  • Really worried as been bleeding for last 5 week continuously started spotting now it's like a full blown period. Last couple of days I have gone really heavy and that concerned I'm due to see doctor Monday to see if he can give me anything to slow bleeding down as hysteroscopy on Wed and don't fancy having it done when bleeding like this. I'm worried I'm loosing so much and wonder if its the cysts causing this. I got the odd pain when I get up in my hip not sure if this the cyst. Also mild aches in legs and tummy with the blood loss

  • Hi Mum45

If the bleeding soaks a pad in an hour or if you start to feel unwell, dizzy and have pain- this would be a reason to seek medical advice today. This is the advice I was given by CNS.

  • Ok thanks Jane it is soaking pad within hour but no major pain or dizziness. Just tired with loosing so much will see how I go

  • Hello sweetheart

Your not alone going through this, my bleeding was so bad l had to use two incontinence pads, then to sit on my settee or go to bed black bath sheet. Worse time was in my bathroom it looked like a murder scene floor was covered in my blood and blood clots which l had to wak through to get a pair knickers

I hope I'm not being too frank, but l did keep ending up being anaemic, when l was bad bleed for over month yes it is very very scary. In the end l had to have all my fibrods bring removed this has been going on for years until gynea decided they better put me on two week cancer pathway so fat l am so 3 months that l haven't bleed.

  • Hi Nanno not great as I'm already still finishing target therapy for breast cancer. What was your outcome what was causing bleeding the fibroids? They could see cysts and polyps and  fibroids I think on ultrasound  (think they said fibroids as I didn't really take in what they were saying as was too much to take in) just waiting for hysteroscopy which is Wed.

  • If the bleeding is soaking the pad within the hour even with no other symptoms- then that is time to seek advice.

  • Hello my lovely

Well apart from when l went into surgery way back in 2021 to have my fibroids

They are still poking and scratching at me tryin to find out why had TVS done on 08/08/2025 it was inconclusive due to me n my sleep apnea couldn't lay down straight all they got on show was my cervix. Took blood to check my levels to see whether l am perimenopausal or post I'm still awaiting results

I have manage to loose 2 stone in 2 months by moderating my vegetarian diet which has helped tremendously so far so good since loosing weight l haven't bled since May.
