The dreaded wait

Hi all,

I had a hysteroscopy for polyp removal and ablation 2 weeks ago.

On discharge I didn't speak to my consultant but was given a discharge summary that said no polyp was found but thickened endometrium (no indication of how thick) was seen and a specimen sent for histology.

I just wondered how long it took for you to get your results, people I've spoken to say that if you haven't heard anything for 2 weeks then your likely in the clear? Did anyone wait longer than this to be told they had cancer?

I know it does no good to worry but it's so difficult isn't it.

Hugs to all going through diagnosis and treatment

  • My result came about 2 weeks later and was positive for cancer. Different hospitals  take different times I think. Perhaps you could call the hospital to chase the result? Find out who your consultant is and call the secretary maybe?

The result will be in soon no doubt but you can always chase it if you are worried.

  • One  week plus 2 days the MDT  met on a Wednesday  got a phone call on Thursday morning saying  we found something nasty after being told by the same consultant who did my biopsy there was nothing to worry about and the biopsy was just for confirmation..

Try not to stress easier said than done I know its seem it will never end but you will get through it x  ..Best wishes to you

  • Two weeks and two days - it can very much depend on which day of the week your MDT (Multi Disciplinary Team) meets to discuss results. Our test results usually have to go to them before we are told. I had my hysteroscopy on a Wednesday, the results didn’t make it in time for the MDT meeting 9 days later (Friday morning), so didn’t get presented till the following Friday morning, making 2 weeks 2 days.
