Diagnosed last September 2024 with grade 1b, has a radical hysterectomy then had follow up course of branch therapy. The scars soon heal but your left with the emotional aspect of the feeling of what makes a women a women : loss of a uterus it’s such a loss,  the fatigue and worry of cancer returning in the pelvic area or elsewhere is very real. The diagnosis itself is very real and difficult to process as usually the turn around for the operation is quick. I won’t lie it’s been a struggle with so many losses, unable to work, it’s true unless you have been there and the words “I am sorry yes you have cancer “ it’s difficult coping with extremes of coping with the diagnosis then not coping

  • Hi Bea,

    Welcome to the Womb group.

I am sorry to hear that you have been through womb cancer and it is very normal to feel as you do.

The emotional aspect is very real, as is the worry about recurrence.

For me everything happened quickly and was like a whirlwind really. It was only after treatment ended that I had time to start to process what had happened.

    This link may help.

I have recently completed the online HOPE course and can recommend it. I found it helped a lot to process it all.

If you feel talking it through would help then do consider giving the Support Line a call. They can also have a look to see if there is any support in your local area.

I wonder if you have a Maggies centre near to you. Many people find them really helpful.

With the worry of recurrence, I don't think it ever goes completely and it is a natural feeling. However I try to look at it that I am now ultra aware of any sensations in my body, I know the signs of recurrence to look out for and if anything did worry me, I can contact my CNS.

I had 2 years of check ups every 12 weeks and they were all clear. I try to have the mindset that I am aware of what to look out for, have access to my CNS if needed and other than that I will try to live my life the best I can. If a recurrence does happen, then I will deal with it when it happens and try not to let the fear take over.

If there is anything you need, you know where we are.

    Jane
