Hi there, I’m 51 and had a post menopausal bleed just before Christmas but have started having a lot of period type pain and lower back pain for about 2 weeks now. I have a 2ww appointment booked for this Thursday for an ultrasound and tvus and then am seeing the gynaecologist straight after to discuss findings and have a hysteroscopy if needed. My question is that if the procedure spots something then are they likely to tell you straight away? The waiting just seems sooooo long even though it isn’t! Thanks for reading x
Hi Nixey73 sorry you’re going through this! As you say, the waiting is awful as your mind runs away with you. I had my ultrasound / tv scan and saw a consultant straight away afterwards. He was very clear that they were ruling cancer out at that point as there can be many reasons for post menopausal bleeding. He was able to tell me that I had a polyp and was able to tell me the thickness of my womb lining which was 22mm and much thicker than it should be.At that stage they are unable to say if there are any cancerous cells there. I had a hysteroscopy a week later and it was only from that biopsy they could tell i had cancer (This is the only procedure that can confirm cancer.) I had an MRI 3 days after that to see if there was any spread.
My advice to you is to take one step at a time. Once you have some answers and a plan of what’s going to happen (if anything) you will be feel so much better.
i had stage 1a cancer and had a hysterectomy in August. I recovered really quickly and needed no further treatment.
Good luck and keep us posted on here if it helps. X
Thanks so much Wise Owl 2! We are due to go on holiday in 3 weeks time and I just can’t look forward to it because of this uncertainty. To be honest my husband is worse than I am at the moment what will be will be and we’ll tackle whatever comes our way. I’m glad that all is well with you right now.. take care x
Hi Nixey73
Welcome to the Womb group.
When I had my ultrasounds I had them at a diagnostic centre. I had the scans at 5pm. The sonographer did not tell me anything but said I would hear from the person who ordered the scans. The following day I had a call from a nurse who said something had been seen but they weren't sure what and asked me to come in for a biopsy.
After the biopsy I was asked how I would like the result and I arranged to be called. The result took about a week.
As you are seeing the gynaecologist straight afterwards they should be able to see if anything needs further investigation. That would be the hysteroscopy mentioned. During the hysteroscopy they would normally take some biopsy samples.
So in answer to your question, you would likely know on the Thursday whether something is not as it should be but a diagnosis would be dependant on biopsy result- if you have one.
Good Luck
Jane
Hi Jane, thanks for your reply! Wow, things moved very quickly for you by the sounds of it! I think I’d much rather get a phone call than a face to face too. I’m quite a private person generally so that works better for me plus it means I don’t have to have even more time off work or hide the appointments from the kids! This group is so helpful so thanks again x
So sorry you are having to go through this , but you are in the right place for support ..
In regard to holiday I had intial bleed one week before my holiday I went and had a fab time go and enjoy every minute! only thing is my holiday insurance would not cover me because I was under investigation..I still went to each day as it came ..

Oh well done, ringing that bell..what a journey for you. Today I just started my next journey post surgery, with chemo and radio today. Long day but went better than I expected.
Wow! Well done on ringing that bell! Such an amazing moment that I shared with my dad when he rang it 3 weeks ago! Hope you’ve been coping well with all of your treatment. Must’ve been a huge shock when you got that phone call and then to be told after that you were stage 3… I’m so sorry you went through that.
starting to get nervous about tomorrow now but at least it’s the start of the investigation as to what’s happening to me! Thanks so much for replying to me xx
Hi all, just got back from my appointment! All went well and the reason for my symptoms is my lining is too thin! Nothing untoward showed up so didn’t need the hysteroscopy after all. I shall be saying goodbye but thank you all so so much for your kind words and advice and I wish you the best of luck with your journey xxx
