Hi
Out of curiosity how many clinics did those of you who've had radiotherapy have? I've just had my 16th dose (of 25) and have started to develop some tummy pains. According to my schedule I was supposed to have my second tomorrow but it's been cancelled presumably because of the bank holiday. So have to wait until next Monday.
And I'm assuming I'm ok just to take any normal pain medication if i feel the need? At the moment it's tolerable.
Thanks
Hi FJ71, well done that you’re well over half way through! By clinics do you mean like a review? I think I had 2-3 but knew I could ask the radiologist any questions any time. Re your tummy pain, I’d recommend telling your radiologist when you go in tomrrow for your next treatment session. It could be bloating/wind/urgency in which case they will advise you what to do. You could even give the unit a call now and ask them.
The radiologists just said when's your next clinic! (and yes by that I mean check in with consultant / review).
And thanks! I can see the finish line in the distance!
Hi FJ71
I had weekly consultant reviews but could ask to speak to some one every day if needed. I was also checked each day by the radiotherapists doing the treatments to see how I was.
I was given medication for tummy effects and pain so I would ask at your session tomorrow.
With regard to taking your normal pain medication, perhaps give the Support Line a call and ask one of the nurses. You could also give the hospital a call directly as they will be able to advise you directly.
Well done on getting to the 16/25- on the home straight now.

When I started getting a bit of bloating, I told my radiologist before my session and she called the on call oncologist and a registrar came down to see me.
I spoke to them but they just told me to raise it at my next review. That said I have taken some over the counter meds for tummies and they've helped
Have you contacted them since you posted this thread? I was told not to take anything at all, not even over the counter meds, unless I’d talked to them first.
I wasn't given that advice in the beginning. But I will speak to them tomorrow and see it if I get a different answer. I haven't spoken again today.
I wasn't given much advice. Eat what you want etc hence why i asked about diets before. And over the counter is fine
As it turned out when I enquired today I did have a review but got a much more positive response to my question. However, what I took was what they would recommend. And if I'm still having issues in a couple of days to raise again
Glad you had a review after all! They suggested an over the counter remedy for me when I got a bit of bloating in week 4, but wanted me to keep the dosage to a minimum as taking anything can cause other effects which can be an issue.
