Hi there,
Just got back from the doctor and I have a biopsy scheduled on Jan 20. I have no symptoms but 6 months ago I had an ultrasound and I had a thickness of 7. Recently it was 6. They found a trace of blood in my urine so my doctor wants to do a biopsy to be sure. I'm scared. Any advice?
Thanks,
Sue
Thanks, Linda. I'm going to have to do that for sure. It's only been 2 days and I'm sore. Sheesh. So you are on this? Vagifem? I'm only on it for 5 weeks to prepare me for my endometrial biopsy. I'm nervous about it because I read some stuff that vagifem can cause cancer? But I'm not sure if they are reliable sources. Do you find it helps?
Hi SamanthaJoy
I was on vagifem when I reached menopause because of vaginal atrophy it was very painful to have a cervical smear done. I have also been prescribed it since I have had cancer as I have 3 monthly internal examinations and as it stands with the atrophy the consultant couldn’t see my vaginal vault. I am also using dilators. The water based lubricant makes such a difference! I asked my consultant if it was safe to use vagifem having had cancer as I was a bit concerned too. She said it was fine.

Thanks, Linda. I'm going out tonight to buy some lubricant. I have atrophy too. I'm so sorry you have had cancer. I hope you're okay now. Oh my goodness - I made the mistake of reading about people's experiences with having a endometrial biopsy and I wish I hadn't. Now, I'm terrified. Absolutely terrified. Yikes. My doctor wants me to take the vagifem and also advil before the appt - in January - to prepare myself. I'm not going to read anyone's stories anymore - they are frightening me.
Hi SamanthaJoy
Everyone’s experience of hysteroscopy is different. I found the transvaginal ultrasound very painful and was really worried about the hysteroscopy. Actually thinking about it now my GP gave me vagifem before the hysteroscopy too. When I got to the appointment the consultant said I could chose whether to try the hysteroscopy then and there or make an appointment for a general anaesthetic in a week or so. I decided to give it a go , he said he could stop at anytime. For me I was fortunate enough to just have mild pain and discomfort and it took about 15 minutes. Try not to worry about it too much I’m sure you will be able to have sedation if you need to or a general. Definitely get the lube though I remember it was very sore using the applicator without it.

Hi SamanthaJoy There are lots of horror stories on the internet about how painful hysteroscopies are and I’m sure each story is accurate and many women have found them painful. I want to redress the balance and try to reassure you a bit and say that mine was fine! I took paracetamol and codeine and ibuprofen an hour before and honestly, although it was an undignified process, I didn’t find it painful. The staff are highly trained and skilled at putting you at ease and everyone was so kind to me. I really hope you find it’s not as bad as you fear. Good luck. X
Thanks everyone for your help. I appreciate it. I've had two transvaginal ultrasounds and one hysteroscopy. They were okay but the biopsy one is when they insert a thin straw thing to gather cells in the endometrium. My doctor said it is painful but he's preparing me with the vagifam and wants me to take advil before I come. I read some horror stories which freaked me out. So I decided I'm not going to read any more about the biopsy, do my best, and hope it's okay. Thanks for listening. :)
Hi I had uterine cancer in 2010 . I went to the doctor as I had a watery bleed after my periods stopped for 18 months. My main concern was my hip was painful but she said first things first and sent me on a 2 week appointment.i was not aware I had anything serious wrong with me. They tried examining me on the stirrups which was too painful so I was sent for a biopsy which came back as cancer. I then had a full hysterectomy by keyhole surgery and that is now 14 years ago. Unfortunately I have just had a mole on my back removed and had come back as Basel cell carcinoma but all removed. I am concerned that the 2 are connected but I shall have to wait . Good luck with your treatment x
Hi Grace was the hip pain related? As I have hip pain too, though this may relate to a tight pelvic floor.
Hey Grace, thanks for sharing. So sorry you went through all you did. So you had hip pain? Wow. You think the mole that was cancerous is connected? I wish you all the best!!!!
