Hi guys,
I’m new to the group. My mum had recently been diagnosed with the above. She had a post menopausal bleed. We assumed it was polyps. As it had been previously. But a biopsy gave her the diagnosis. Today we’ve been told the cancer is contained in her womb. They think it’s spread to 2 of her lymph nodes. But they can’t be sure of that until they operate. They said they are enlarged.
Full hysterectomy and lymph node removal has been suggested . Not sure if she’ll need chemo/ radio after. They said it depends on the lymph nodes.
It would be nice to hear from others and their journeys. Stupidly I looked on google over the weekend and was horrified.
It’s so difficult to take everything in during the appointments. I think the surgeon said around 8 weeks recovery for surgery. Just not to rush anything. Let us know how you get on tomorrow.
That really is s quick recovery. Yeah mums active too. The surgeons were impressed she didn’t take medication and had no other conditions. So that can only help her diagnosis.
Hi Dachshundowner,
I was diagnosed with Serous Endometrial Cancer in March 2022 and had an abdominal hysterectomy in May 2022 with removal of many lymph glands. Although it had not spread to any other organs, cancer cells were found in 4 para-aortic lymph glands which meant the cancer was trying to spread upwards rather than into the pelvic area. I then had 6 sessions of chemo and 4 sessions of brachytherapy (internal radiotherapy). I was told it was Stage 3 because of the spread to the lymph glands.
Since my treatment finished I have had several check ups and two CT scans. The scans showed no evidence of disease. I am still having check ups but remain well.
My consultant told me from the start that Serous was a more aggressive type of womb cancer but it is treatable and the treatment is more intense because it is a Grade 3 cancer.
I hope my story helps you and your Mum with her journey through treatment and recovery. Best wishes xx
It’s really encouraging hearing from women who have been through this. Although we’re at the start of the journey, it’s nice to know there’s hope.
I’d by lying if I said we didn’t automatically assume the worst. But I think that’s normal.
The two suspected lymp glands of my mums are also higher up. He mentioned an aortic lymph gland. Whilst he said they are only slightly enlarged. He is treating them as though cancer is present.
I thought I would update you all on my mums journey. So much has happened in a short space of time. Which is a blessing and a curse. Mums was diagnosed on 12th September with serous carcinoma. After the CT it was suspected it had also spread to 2 lymph nodes. They were only slightly enlarged. But said they would know more post surgery.
On October the 12th she had an abdominal hysterectomy. With lymph node removal removal. 11 lymph nodes were removed. Two came back containing cancer. The consultants said the operation was a success. But because of the aggressive nature of the cancer. Plus the fact it was found in lymph does, mum will need chemo and radio. We’ve got a long journey ahead of us! But we’re staying positive and we’re fighting.
Cannot thank this group enough for all the knowledge and support.
Hi Dachshundowner
I hope that Mum is recovering ok from the surgery. So much can happen so quickly and it can feel a bit of a whirlwind.
I also had chemotherapy and external beam radiotherapy. It wasn't easy at times but it was doable. When it is in front of you it seems like it will never end but once I started treatment it did go quicker than expected. I think the trick for me was to focus on one appointment at a time otherwise it can feel a bit overwhelming.
if there is anything you/Mum want to ask about the treatment, please do so.
Jane
