Hello,
I’m new here.
I’m 27 years old, I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer January 2022. I’m booked in to have a total laparoscopic hysterectomy and bilateral salpingectomy next Thursday after a lot of discussions.
I’m extremely nervous but at the same time I’m not sure how to feel. I still haven’t really come to terms with everything. Apart from the cancer I also have a lot of other medical conditions that affect me on a daily basis.
I was just wondering about how I should prepare for the surgery, what to expect during and also what to expect after it as well. How is it going to change me?
Thank you in advance,
Dy
Hi SM25
Hello Dy and welcome to the group. I'm sorry to hear of your diagnosis last January. I was diagnosed then as well. I had my hysterectomy in Feb 22. If you would like to read my profile, please click on my username. Its a good idea to write a profile yourself, as then members can get to know you and what's been happening up till now. It also saves you repeating yourself. Just click on your own username to write it.
Have you been given a Macmillan booklet Understanding Endometrial Cancer? If not it can be read online, here is the link to access it https://www.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-and-support/stories-and-media/booklets
This is an excellent resource for everything you will need to know and for what to expect. There are lovely ladies on this site that will be along soon to welcome you. Some have written blogs and lists of things you'll need to pack for hospital.
If you feel like you need to speak to someone, the Macmillan phone lines are open and this is the link to contact https://www.macmillan.org.uk/about-us/contact-us
Start with the booklet so that you are not overwhelmed, it's a lot to take in, especially for someone so young as it also raises fertility and early menopause issues for you. Best wishes for your surgery and recovery Dy.
A x
Hallo Dy, welcome from me too! I had my hysterectomy in January 2022 and I wrote a diary about it all. If you’d like to have a read through, here’s the link: https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_types/womb-cancer-forum/f/diagnosis-and-treatment/232566/hysterectomy-day-and-after---diary?pifragment-13906=1#1679323
Feel free to ask any questions that come to mind. It’s totally okay and understandable to not know how to feel about it. I will also post a link here to a thread with suggestions of what to pack in your hospital bag: community.macmillan.org.uk/.../what-to-take-in-my-overnight-bag
