Hello all
I am 62 and had total hysterectomy to remove stage 1 endometrial cancer last April. No other treatment necessary. I have made a good recovery, however, I had to stop my HRT immediately on diagnosis. Initially this was not a real issue, but recently I am in full menopause symptoms! I understand the post hysterectomy HRT guidelines have changed and my GP has prescribed me a very low dose HRT patch, a blooming life saver.
I have now been told by another specialist not to take it due to the therorical risk of recurrence. Normally I would just adhere to this advice, but the HRT is a life changer and I feel like my old self.
Is there anybody else in this situation and willing to share their experience or thoughts?
Best wishes
Mrs S
Hello Mrs S
My hysterectomy was also last April too. Glad to hear that you have made a good recovery.
I was told that I could not take HRT in the future due to my pathology showing it as oestrogen and progesterone positive. Not everyone's is- I believe, However I am lucky in that I did not suffer menopausal symptoms. I do have friends that really suffer with menopausal symptoms so I do sympathise.
Maybe it is something that you could discuss again with your GP to way up the pros and cons of the low dose patch now that another specialist has expressed concern. Sounds like its a benefits vs risk situation that only you and your doctor can decide as they have your full medical history. There is an Ask a Nurse section on here if that would help.
I have check ups at the hospital every 3 months. If you do perhaps you could speak with your CNS or Consultant.
Good Luck
Jane

Have you ever tried natural remedies? I’m 63 and went through the menopause years ago before my cancer diagnosis just using natural remedies. Just a thought as they’re worth a try (as long as they don’t clash with any current medication)
