Advice needed please

Hi all,

I'm just looking for advice. I'm 52 and been menopausal for 4 yrs when I had a small bleed 3 months ago. Went to the GP who referred me to gnaeay and took a smear..2 months later she phone to say cervical smear was negative but the were abnormal endometrial cells found.. I then had a gnaeay consult and she found a mass in the middle of my uterus during her exam and said I will be having a hysterectomy once they determine exactly how widespread it is. 2 weeks ago I had a hysteroscopy and an attempt at biopsies done under ga. They couldn't get the biopsies needed as there is too much scarring apparently. They did do a Lletz procedure. A week later I had a very smelly black discharge, pain and temp so I've been on 2 antibiotics for a week and feeling a little better but I've woken up this morning and I'm bleeding heavily. I really am a bit lost as nobody seems to be able to say if all this normal. I have pain in my abdomen and out my back constantly and I'm exhausted all the time. I'm due back to work tomorrow and I'm worried about doing more damage. I haven't been told how long before the next step or even what happens next, and now now I'm bleeding.  Can anybody advise me please?

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Online Community. You've joined a group of lovely supportive ladies who, between us, has a wealth of knowledge.

Have you been allocated a CNS? (Clinician Nurse Specialist). If so give her a call and ask her advice. If not give your Consultant's secretary a call and try to get your consultant to call.

Frequently taking biopsies result in a bleed later. A Lletz procedure removes part of the cervix and it appears you've had a reaction resulting in the need for antibiotics. It might also be a good idea to give the Macmillan nurses a ring on the support helpline, freephone 0808 808 0000 and have a chat.

The next step after hysteroscopy and biopsy would be a CT scan and perhaps a MRI scan. Then a MDT (Multi discipline team) would meet to discuss the findings and plan your forward treatment.

Thank you so much for your reply.  I have downloaded the information and it's been a great help. Thank you so much.

  • Hi @Tannia

Just to add, the black smelly discharge would be considered normal after a LLETZ, but the temp might indicate an infection, hopefully cleared up by the antibiotics. Some bleeding after the LLETZ is also considered normal, with the proviso that if you are filling something like 2 pads or more an hour you should seek medical advice immediately. Hope things start to improve for you, but do consider whether you really feel able to return to work tomorrow.
