I didn’t ask why it had got to that stage and what type it is / was I see the oncologist next week
What should I ask?
Hi Autumn, well done for posting and bless you with the shock you’ve had. I can empathise as I had been expecting stage 1 and no adjuvant treatment needed, and got hit with stage 2 and needing radio and brachy. My consultant had even said he was 90% sure. When I was told my mind just froze and I found it hard to take in what was being said. Was your CNS with you when you were told? I’d recommend giving your CNS a call on Monday (presuming they’re not working today?) and ask to go over what was said, including grade as well as stage. Mine became stage 2 as cells were found on my cervix as well so it had spread. I hear you that you’re frightened and anxious, but you will be able acclimatise and take all this on board and move forward, even though it feels overwhelming now. There are those on the group who’ve been where you are, and can support you.
PS - I’d advise you against googling, and to stick to reputable sites (like Macmillan!). Here’s a Macmillan link to explain grades and stages:
