Hi everyone

hope your all keeping well.

  • Hi  and welcome to our little corner of the Online Community. Here you'll find a lovely group of supportive ladies who at some time have made the leap to joining this forum not knowing what to expect nor what to say or how to express what's going on your head right now.. If you want to ask any of us any questions please come back and do so. There's always someone around and we can offer a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold or listen to a rant, we’re here for you.

A possibility of cancer diagnosis brings all sorts of stress and fears and if anyone can hold your hand and reassure you we will. We're all at the start, in the middle or the end of what can only be described as a roller-coaster ride. The ride no-one wants to get on.

When you have a minute, it would be helpful if you could pop something about your  journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. (It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself.) To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can update it at any time and if you're not sure what you should write have a quick look at mine by clicking on my username.

It might also be a good idea to download this booklet Understanding Womb (Endometrial) Cancer I found it invaluable in my journey.

It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear. It's free to call on 0808 808 00 00  8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. Have a look to see what is available by Clicking here .

There is also an Ask an Expert section, but you should allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers can be found on our Online Information and Support Section

Sending you welcoming hugs, B xx

  • Hi Mac H,

I was unsure what to say initially because I didn't know if you had cancer, or not!! But, I've now read your profile, I understand.

If you have had 6 children my advice is let them look after you for a change!!! I only have 2, but they came armed with food, jigsaws, a cushion tray, etc. It was quite nice to be looked after. My other bit of advice is if you have young grand children barricade yourself with cushions! I found I couldn't bear mine bounding around too near me! She was 3 then and very good. The cushions just reminded her to be careful!!

You seem to have been dealt with very quickly, so good. I found the whole experience far, far better than expected, and much less painful than child birth. I had keyhole surgery. Do you know what you are having? Good luck. xxx

I’ve got three grandchildren   Two of them I look after school runs etc and holidays. As from Monday I’ll be shielding so I won’t be having them for a few weeks post op. I’m having keyhole too so fingers crossed they’ll be able to do it that way and not open me up. I’m hoping to feel like a new woman once it’s done. Thankyou for the advice ref cushions it’s a good tip.
just want my energy levels back

    thankyou NannyAnny

  •  Hi . Thanks for updating your profile. It's always helpful for all of us to see where you are on your journey.

I think we all agree, when you mention that post menopausal bleed our GP's are very quick to react. Yours has been a very rapid journey and I doubt you've had time to take it all in!

I see you're having a full hysterectomy on 6th May. I see you've advised family and clients so it's time to look after yourself. Buy some Bridget Jones big knickers as you'll need them. Pack a bag with Nighties rather than PJ's and loose clothing for return home. Phone and charger, something to read, some nibbles (Hospital food can be pretty gross) toiletries etc. Don't forget a pillow for the homeward journey. I'm sure others will be along to add what I miss!

I myself had laparoscopic surgery so if you can think of any questions you want to ask come back and ask.

We've all been in a state of total disbelief, anger, numbness like you might be now so we're all here for you on the start of your rollercoaster ride.

    Sending big hugs, Barb xxHugging

  • I must've been typing when you replied to NannyAnny so noticed you're having keyhole - that's good, quicker recovery and only a short hospital visit hopefully.

  • Hi Mac H,

I had a look earlier, thanks for the info in your profile. Sorry you find yourself here but this is a lovely supportive place to be. I was diagnosed last March just before lockdown and had laparoscopic lot removed March 30th. It was an unremarkable recovery but did take time and I needed to rest. I had 8 weeks off work although to be honest probably would have benefited with a few more. I rang the MacMillan helpline when I needed to as well as Samaritans in the wee small hours. Also had some counselling about 6 months after surgery, There is so much wonderful support out there.

A year on I am doing great, it has been an eventful year.

Just to add to your list of things to take, teabags (love my M&S decaf), eye mask and earplugs.

Keep us posted on how it all goes, ask any questions.

    Take care.

    Best wishes
