I was just diagnosed with Endometrial Adenocarcinoma. I am overwhelmed with emotions.  Panic, fear, fear and more fear.  My general practitioner told me my bleeding was just hormones because I was perimenopausal so the bleeding got ignored for a year and a half before another doctor referred me to a gynecologist who diagnosed me.  I have a CT scan tomorrow and then we go from there with an oncologist.  I just don't know how to stop the absolute panic and fear I have.  My mind just races and loops, starting over and over again.

  • Hi River,

Sorry you find yourself here with that diagnosis. No wonder you are in a state. I'm sure your GP could give you something to calm you down, although I quite understand if you don't trust them anymore. I had a similar experience once and changed doctors. One of the best decisions I ever made!!

Hang on to the fact that Endometrial cancer is slow growing. All the best xxxxx

  • Hi  River57 and welcome to our little corner of the Online Community. Here you'll find a lovely group of supportive ladies who have all been exactly where you are now. A possibility of cancer diagnosis brings all sorts of stress and fears and if anyone can hold your hand and reassure you we will. We're all at the start, in the middle or the end of what can only be described as a roller-coaster ride. The ride no-one wanted to get on.

Now you are under the care of a gynaecologist things should move fast. After your CT scan you might have a MRI scan, a Hysteroscopy and biopsies taken. Then there'll be a MDT meeting who will discuss their findings. (Multi Disciplined Team consists of surgeons, Oncologists, specialist nurses, anaesthetists)

I know your head is in a spin at the moment, we've honestly all been there. My diagnosis came out of the blue last August and by November I'd had my op and finished my treatments

It might also be a good idea to download this booklet Understanding Womb (Endometrial) Cancer I found it invaluable in my journey.

If you want to ask any of us any questions please come back and do so. There's always someone around.

When you have a minute, it would be helpful if you could pop something about your  journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. (It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself.) To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can update it at any time and if you're not sure what you should write have a quick look at mine by clicking on my username.

It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear. It's free to call on 0808 808 00 00  8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. Have a look to see what is available by Clicking here .

There is also an Ask an Expert section, but you should allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers can be found on our Online Information and Support Section

  • Dear River,

welcome to this supportive and caring group. I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis and the delay in you getting the care you needed.

From the first time I had symptoms to surgery was 15 days but then I was 18 years post menopausal. This was exactly a year ago so everything was done quickly and I was on the last operating list before all routine surgery stopped.

I have found not only this group a wonderful source of information, wisdom and support I also call MacMillan helpline when I need to talk and Samaritans who are available 24/7.

Please let us know how you are.

    Sending you all good wishes.

I’ve had the hysteroscopy (x2) and the biopsies taken (x2).  Just had my CT scan yesterday.  Now waiting.  Thank you for all the links.  I did update my profile.  Thank you for showing me how.  I’m in America so probably won’t be using the phone number.  This site was the easiest for me to navigate.  I tried to sign up on another but I wasn’t able to successfully do it.  I will have to find something local for phone calls.

I wish my doctor would have sent me to a gynecologist right away.  There is no rewind button though.  If I knew they what I know now, I would have asked to see a gynecologist.  Hopefully things haven't gotten out of control.  I'm just waiting for results from tests to come back at this point.
    Thank you.

  • Sorry to hear your news. All those emotions are normal.

I too was diagnosed on 11/12/2020. The hospital were great with the two week wait policy. I had MRI and CT within a few days and was booked in for full hysterectomy with BSO 3.5 weeks later. Unfortunately the surgery was cancelled and I ended up paying to go private as I needed peace of mind. Best advice I had form friends, CNS and this forum was to stay positive. You have to remember you cannot change what has happened, so it is important for your own mental health that you focus on the positives. It sounds like it has been caught early. Fast forward 7 weeks from surgery my histology has come back clear and I am back at work as a Primary School teacher (albeit part time until Easter). If it is stage 1 then you are highly likely to be fine, just get the surgery done as soon as you can and then you can hopefully start the road to recovery xx
