What were the best 3 things you packed for your stay in hospital for your hysterectomy, whether it was just overnight or for a few days? We have had a few threads for this over the last 4 years but they always slip down, so I thought we could start a new one! One of the scary things about being diagnosed with cancer is the feeling of not being in control - focussing on what to pack, and buying in items if needed, can be a helpful thing to focus on as we do have control over it!
For me, my best 3 things were my own pillow, my own snacks and squash, and an extra long charging lead for my iPad as hospital plug sockets are usually way behind the bed!
Oh my! That’s not good. I remember my case and pillow were taken off to recovery when I went to theatre and then I joined them afterwards in recovery and they went up to the ward with me afterwards.
hi I just had my surgery on 5th Feb a hysterectomy with fallopian tubes ovaries and cervix removed i was the first one down at 9am and was let home at 8-30pm albeit with a catheter as i just couldnt pee and had vomited twice i didnt expect to have such a sore throat i could hardly speak but was only a little sore no pain which i was really surprised with my three things were my slippers wide legged joggers and my phone.
Hi I am 8 days after my op now awaiting my results just trying to take one day at a time but waiting sucks I always imagine the worst so thankful for my husband and sister who cheer me up every day physically I am doing well no pain a little sore bruises going even stopped taking painkillers as they are unnecessary at the moment.
Thanks for the link, I hadn't thought about the fact I will have a catheter in overnight and appropriate clothing.
I also hadn't thought that my jeans/trousers waist is where my keyhole sites will be.
I have started a little bag, but for me my oodie is so comfy, but mega hot so I may need my little neck fan may need to be packed too.
Plus im liking your pillow idea. I have a big bag, but at this rate im going to need my 2 week holiday suitcase for an over night stay haha.
I would take some earplugs and an eye mask for the bright lights in room/ward. After surgery they put inflatable wraps around yr calves which are quite noisy . To stop any thrombosis in veins.
Also make sure you have the buzzer for the nurse at the side of you as it was put behind my head and i ended up shouting for 15minutes for some hrlp.
I really didn’t like the inflatable compressors - didn’t even know what they were! I called a nurse, asked what they were, and asked if they were absolutely necessary and could they be turned off. She turned them off and removed them for me and I just bent and straightened my legs and twiddled my ankles instead.
Those inflatables are not pleasant. I felt like the one on my Left leg was doing my bp all night. Everyone told me I was getting a massage....erm I've never had a massage like those before lol.
