Just waiting

I must be a very insensitive person and I’m sure there are so many people who are really sick…

back in October I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Everything went so quick appointment, scans operations and results, within a month I had had surgery and obviously sent away to await the results which again took about 3wks. It was decided I didn’t need any further treatment at that time and was told the only strange thing was I had free floating cancer cells. I don’t know what that means or if it’s a bad thing.. now I can imagine how busy these drs are I really do, but I am still unsure what’s next for me other than apparently waiting.. I feel a bit of a fraud am I even ill was I ever ?? To be honest I feel like I’ve just been left to get on with the rest of my life, which I’m quite happy with, I just feeling right now that I’m not important. So if I’m cured why can’t I just be told that.. I have tried talking to the person who I’m suppose to contact but they’re so busy that I’m still waiting on the checkup call I was suppose to have just after Xmas. I’m not sure of the pathway after surgery but I don’t like this not knowing I would rather be discharged

Please do not worry about asking questions on here, its what we are here for- to support each other- at whatever stage of the journey we are on.

It is worth sometimes emailing your CNS with questions and then they can contact you at a convenient time. They are busy, but that does not mean that you should be worrying about contacting them. I know after my treatment, I did have some delayed appointments.

I would imagine the check up appointment will answer many of your questions and explain what may lay ahead. For some people they have regular check up appointments, some may have scans, some may be put on patient led referral.

As you were told that you do not need any further treatment at this time, that would suggest to me that you were both early stage and early grade. The free floating cancer cells would suggest that when they did the washing during the surgery (where saline is introduced into the abdominal cavity) that some cancer cells were found in the fluid. This is something I would ask about for clarification on what this means specifically for you. So perhaps to ask whether any further investigation would be required or any monitoring/scan in the future.

I wonder whether it may be worth doing an online consultation with your GP while you are waiting for your hospital phone call. They would have been sent your post op histology report/diagnosis etc and they may be able to explain it medically.
