Hi
I'm packing my bag for abdominal hysterectomy next week and I've been told I'm staying in up to ten days, what's best nighties or pj's? I've got two nighties for first two days but not sure if I need more, I'm more of a pj person but worried about thr pressure on wound.
Hello Thenurseryisgoing
I had my hysterectomy in April 22. I took nighties as I thought they would be easier with the catheter. However that was taken out during the first night and I was discharged home the morning after the op. I only wore the surgical gown. I wore comfy trousers home.
If you prefer pyjamas I would think they would be fine as long as comfy/jersey type. For the first week I tended to wear loose t shirts. jogger type trousers and they were fine. Comfy knickers too- I bought some cotton full cover type and a size bigger. They helped with any discomfort post op and made a big difference with the tummy injections which caused a lot of bruising.
Good luck for your surgery next week- hope it all goes well
Jane
I usually am a pyjama person but my abdominal area was so sensitive after the surgery that I wore nightdresses for weeks after and even during the day I wore a loose dress. If you do stick with pjs do get a larger size than normal.
I echo Jane on knickers a size bigger and full briefs in comfortable fabric. Your belly will return to normal but comfortable clothing during recovery helps loads
Hi there
I’m very much a pyjama person but took two very oversize t shirts in to hospital to wear as nighties as that made it easier re them checking my incision sites. I was only in overnight though. As soon as I came home I switched to PJs (for me PJs are baggy t shirts and loose leggings) with no issue. But my op was laparoscopic and I suspect yours may be a vertical incision?
Thankyou all so much, I may need to get a couple more nighties and some big knickers ! I’m not sure which way the incision is going to be as I already have a low bikini line scar from previous surgery.
Oh what MarmiteFan59 said above about oversized t-shirts reminded me. After my surgery I bought myself on sale a couple of Oodie sleep-T-shirts and they are very very soft and roomy. They are a bit pricey but my so comfy
This reminded me that I had a couple of Oodie sleep T-shirts which are mega soft and roomy
I bought a pack of knickers a size bigger than I normally wear - and never wore them! My normal ones (hi leg style) fitted fine, and I ended up donating my unopened pack of bigger ones to an Ukraine appeal. If you’re buying new knickers I’d suggest buying full briefs. If you’re not having laparoscopic or robotic, the incision is usual vertical. You could give your CNS a quick call to ask.
