Hi ladies. Earlier this year I bled for 10 weeks and since then spot almost every day. I eventually phoned the nurse for advice (I’m 52) they did blood tests and along with being anemia, my ca125 level is raised. I had a transvaginal scan and my lining is thick. My doctor called and I am being referred under the 2 week rule for a biopsy. Honestly - what is the likelihood of this being cancer? In the last 2 years I have had malignant melanoma and a brain tumour, really don’t want to go through this again. Any advice would be appreciated.
Hi I see you haven't had any replies to your post. Not sure if I can help as such. There can be many reasons for bleeding and spotting, and many aren't cancer, but only having the tests will give you the answers. Have you been through the menopause? I had a dreadful menopause with many months of bleeding and spotting, and finally stopped at age 56 and then 6 years later started the occasional bit of spotting and when I went to the doctors wasn't initially put on the 2 week pathway (which I should have been considering my age!) but after scans, 2 hysteroscopies and MRI was diagnosed with cancer and subsequently had a hysterectomy and radiotherapy. But there can be other reasons for the bleeding and spotting too. Hopefully you won't have to wait too much longer to get an answer. You have already been through such a lot I hope you get some positive news.
Hugs, Lesley xx
Hi Istanbul,
I think I stopped my menopause around age 52, but from age 47 I never knew if I would get a bleed, or not, or how long it would last. I refused HRT, having had problems with hormones when younger.
Having said all that I know they don't like thick linings. Mine was normal, but a biopsy proved I had cancer anyway, so who knows!!! I will say the operation was not too bad for me as I had it by keyhole at age 72. Absolutely marvelous. Lets hope you don't need to go through anything else. xxxxx
Hi Lesley thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it. Trying not to google and a truly talk to people who will know the real symptoms of womb cancer. I go from talking myself out of it - how can I get 3 things in 3 years, to resigning myself to here we go again! I’m hoping the biopsy will be very soon and I can just get on with whatever it takes me. Didn’t help that my ferritin is rock bottom and my doctor seems to think that a rise from 9-17 in 5 months of taking tablets is acceptable! X
I suppose everyone is different but this first stage of waiting is terrifying for us all that have been through it. I hope you get some positive news x
Hi Istanbul,
I think thick linings are an indicator of cancer, but as I said mine was normal and I still had cancer. It was only the biopsy that showed there was cancer. The consultant thought it was vaginal thinning, but took a biopsy to make sure. I'm glad he did, now.
I think I know how you are feeling, as during my scans they picked up another problem with my throat. The gynae lot were very insistent I followed it through once I got over the hysterectomy. The throat people were not too worried, and signed me off after I had worked myself up for two operations!! Try and regard it all as an MOT, and you will be good for another few years!!! xxxx
