Hello - I wondered if anyone would mind sharing with me what their initial symptoms were?
I’m 62, and I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Currently NED.
Last week I began to experience light brown vaginal discharge - no odour. Obviously I’m long post menopause (and post HRT) and I’ve not been sexually active recently.
I’m absolutely terrified. I can’t go through this again. The BC was my second experience of cancer (first was in my teens). I just can’t do it again.
I will ring the GP on Monday but I’m going out of my mind with worry right now
Hi Courtlands Cat,
Sorry you find yourself here. I was 72 when I noticed a pink blob one day rather like the 'show' you have before giving birth. I decided I might just have caught myself somehow, and decided to see if anything else happened. 3 weeks later I had a streak of blood on my knickers, and I was at the doctors the next day!! After being referred to the hospital I had no more bleeds until I had a hysterectomy! Fortunately it was all caught early and I just needed the hysterectomy. I had it by keyhole and decided keyhole surgery is quite marvellous. Not as intrusive as the knife.
I watched my daughter go through breast cancer, operation, chemo and radiotherapy, and I think I had an easier time of it - if that's any consolation to you! It might not be cancer, anyway. You have done the best thing if you contact your doctor. Good luck. xxxxx
Thank you very much for sharing your story, @nannyanny xxx
Hi Courtlandcats
Back in Feb this year l noticed blood whilst wiping myself having had a pee.
l was already waiting to see a gynaecologist because of fibroids and had a routine appointment booked for end of march. l rang 111 to ask if l should see a doctor urgently.
The answer was yes and l was fast tracked by my Gp to see a consultant by the end of Feb. Good job l did, it was cancer and having had a hysterectomy l'm now having chemotherapy and l agree with nannyannie.
My treatment doesnt seem as gruelling as l expected. ln fact this second round of chemo is easier than the first.
However frightened you are, you must see your doctor. lf its not cancer you will be massively relieved and if it is you will have a chance of beating it.
Good luck x
I had two days of post menopausal bleeding, not much but enough for me to know it wasn’t normal. Went straight to the GP. It was stage 1a but grade 3. No other symptoms. Surgery was within 4 weeks then brachytherapy. Seems such a long time ago and it was awful really. I’ve since retired as it made me realise my health was the most important thing. You just have to take one step at a time. You know what’s involved and you know you have to get through it and you will.
wishing you strength and a successful prognosis x
