Hi. I’m afraid the injection in my stomach hurt like hell even with the numbing cream! It’s when the liquid actually goes in it stings & I get the most awful pain. Going to ring the hospital tomorrow to see if I can stop the injections. Been on them 2 weeks plus the ted stockings! Surely that’s enough!!! X

  • I had the stockings on for six weeks, it was four weeks and when I am mobile but I took them off after the four weeks and my leg swelled so had to have them on for another two weeks. To be honest it would be better if they provided people with two pairs so you can change and wash them. As for injections I had them in the thigh but I wasn't great giving myself them. I found out recently with my latest stays in hospital that its better to have them in the stomach. A lot have problems with it because it can hurt I got told to totally relax my stomach muscle and then inject I found this more comfortable, although my stomach did have some small bruises that I called my dart board. It seems everyone is told different about how long to have the injections and the stockings some have even been lucky not to have the injections. Hope your all recovering well from your surgery apart from the injections and the sexy stockings. Gentle hugs all

  • Hello everyone

I was given 4 weeks worth of Fragmin but after reading posts on here that some people only had them for two weeks I checked with the hospital. A nurse checked my notes and cheerfully told me I’d been given too much by mistake and only needed to take them for one week!

I had already self injected for two weeks by that time but was very glad to stop them.

I was told to inject into alternate top of thighs taking a good pinch of flesh which worked well for me. But then I have a bit to spare!!

That does it! I’m ringing the hospital tomorrow! Excuse my language but those bloody injections are vile!!! Please let them tell me to come off them!!! Pray

  • hi Caz58

at the risk of causing further anarchy...

my CSN said they don’t recommend injecting into the stomach any more (Royal Womens Hospital Liverpool).

If you have to keep taking them it might be worth asking if you can switch  to the upper thigh. I think I would have struggled injecting the stomach which is already sore and bloated from surgery... just my opinion.

  • Hi. I had injections for 5 days and stockings for 4 weeks.  Doctor told me stockings for 2 weeks but nurse insisted 4 weeks so I erred on the side of caution and followed her advice.  I assumed there was some sort of calculation based on my age, health, pre-op findings, medical history etc to decide how long I needed injections and/or stockings.  They are a nuisance but after all they are a lot less of a nuisance than having a DVT.  Maybe mark them on a calendar so you can start counting down to the finish!  Every day is one less to do.  It will soon be over with, and just a distant memory.

Do you know what? I think you’re right! Injecting into my stomach was awful! Need to definitely ring hospital tomorrow before I put myself through more torture!! Xx

  • Hi , yeah they told me to inject top of the thigh taking a good pinch of skin. Although at the time I was told that people find it easier to do themselves, and its always a topic of discussion here because people get told different according to the hospitals way of doing things. That was back in 2017 when I had my surgery , its always a very interesting discussion and its surprising how it can differ. The only most important thing is that it does its job and prevents DVT they are hardly the nicest thing to do, and most of the time we just want to get them over with however we are told to have them. But you make a very good point there Christmas2019 because I always wondered why some would be told to inject in the stomach after already being sore from abdominal surgery and why some hospitals say its better to do so too.

Yes , I agree with Christmas here ask about switching to upper thigh injections if that's more comfortable.
