Hi ladies

So on Friday I had it done all taken away.

My admission time was 11.30 and I had to wait nearly two hours for a bed.  I had my own little room which was very cosy. So was just sitting there reading magazine when my surgeon came to me at three to say there was a delay as there had been a complication earlier in the day

Which meant there was a strong possibility of no op that day.  However a little under an hour later another surgeon stepped in and so I was on my way.

After getting back to the ward though with being asleep most of the afternoon and evening I was wide awake all night.

Following morning another surgeon came in to say he had done my op and he said I looked like I hadn't had one done I looked so well.

Most of yesterday was spent waiting for the heparin shots and a little after four yesterday I finally landed home.

Did my first heparin shot last night however had a bit of a job taking the protective cover off.

Anyone got any tips?

  • Hi Annie, Glad you are back home. You sound very chirpy!!

I can't advise about the injections as husband did mine! I just held the bit of flab for him to inject !!! Take it easy for a while.

    Hi

They said I had done the best so that made me feel better.

Plus the wonderful hospital food spurred me on lol!!

  • Glad to see you are home Annie, keep taking it easy. I delegated the injections to my hubby too, I couldn't do it, I hope you find the knack, there is probably a you tube video with tips if you are still struggling.

    lots of love

    xxx

I've been doing mine and do find the tops hard to get off, I kind of end up wrestling it off!

Hopedully one of will discover an easier way.

  • No one seems to even know if I'll need to do them ~ surely they should be helping. I've also got some special dressing on that's meant to help the wound heal quicker. So I have a box I have to carry round with me till whenever.

And now got a new patient in causing a problem so we're not getting all our medication on time. Thank fully I've had the pain relief but got injection 2 hrs late and I think I'm due antibiotics.

They'll have to wake me up.

  • And we are still waiting. Lady opposite hasn't had pain killers yet that were due at 7.15. And both of us think we should have antibiotics. Something seems to have gone seriously wrong here.

  • Hi Nina,

I had a night like this when I was in hospital. We didn't get a night time drink, and the evening drug round didn't get to us until 11pm. Apparently there were 27 patients in and only two nurses. One of our ladies got up in the night for the loo and saw a pool of blood on the floor. I slept through all this!! I think the nurses had a bad night with someone. They are just under staffed when something goes wrong.

Do ask, and keep asking if you think you need something. The only way is to keep an eye on things and nag!!! We've learnt that one. xxxx

  • It is crazy at the weekend. Seemed only 3 members  of staff. Not loads of patients but last night there were lots of people coming for emergency procedures.

I've decided to try lower dose of codeine with the paracetamol. If I start halutinating again I'll know the cause!!!

  • Hi  I’m sorry to hear you’ve been struggling with pain. I hope things have improved today. I hope the lower dose of codeine works and that you don’t hallucinate but do be aware that codeine can cause constipation if used for a while. Hope you start to feel much better soon. Take things gently and mobilise when you can - it is hard, I know, but you’ll get there x
