Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has had an endometrial ablation before getting their diagnosis?
I'm currently waiting my appointment on Saturday with gynae following a suspicious ultrasound last Friday (bulky uterus, clots seen). I had ask for the ultrasound because having had an ablation in January 2018 I was starting to get really bad "period" pains. I'm 99% sure that this is just because my period has nowhere to go, but the 1% is worrying me, even though the biopsy taken at the time of my ablation was normal.
My fatigue is through the roof, I'm hyper aware of feelings in my uterus. Getting pain in my right groin and lower back (could be just normal for me as I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and fibromyalgia).
Much love to everyone here. Thanks for reading.

Hi Jes,
I didn't have an ablation before my diagnosis, I don't remember any similar posts but I had a quick search through the site history for you and the only mentions I can see are people who have one as part of diagnosis, you can type 'ablation' in the search bar on the womb group page and have a browse through if you fancy it.
Your appointment with your gynaecologist consultant should hopefully bring you some answers but you have found a safe place to wait, we all know how anxious waiting on results can be. Lots of people pass through the group and get the all clear, so try and take things one step at a time and please avoid the urge to google, take information from the nhs or Macmillan sites, they are more accurate.
Lots of love and please feel free to ask any questions or share any worries you have whilst you wait.

Hello I am in the same boat as you. Had lots of bleeding and then an ablation in January.
3 months with nothing and then the bleeding started again, has been non stop.
had a scan which showed thickened lining 19mm and 2 week pathway commenced. Saw a consultant today, 7 days after scan, and had biopsy done in clinic.
now just to wait for results.
ive also searched for the same thing and found very little on women who have had previous ablation.
all the very best x
Heya
I'm just wondering if you could explain what you mean by "my period has nowhere to go" please? Just because from what I know of the ablation procedure, as well as human anatomy and biology, that doesn't quite make sense.
Thanks,
Lass

Hi Lass,
Sometimes is the endometrial tissue is not completely destroyed the normal endometrial tissue under the scarred endometrial tissue still go through its monthly cycle. With the blood being unable to shed through the scarred tissue. I hope this explains it better.
However, my previous comment of the blood has nowhere to go turned out to be the exact answer. My ablation was a diathermy rollerball ablation. My surgeon also treated my cervix. My cervix is now scarred shut. The gynae doctor I saw my emergency appointment tried to dilate it under local anaesthetic but was unable to. I'm going in tomorrow (5th of November) so she can try under a general anaesthetic.

Heya Jes,
That sounds like a very unfortunate complication you've ended up with there!! Fingers crossed they can sort out the scarring on your cervix! Do you know why the doctor used the ball on it? Because endometrial tissue doesn't grow on the cervix, so it shouldn't have needed treated.
There also shouldn't be any endometrial tissue left after an ablation. I believe the point of it is to thin out the endometrial tissue then slightly damage the womb itself to stop it from being able to grow more? So any endometrium in the womb at the time of the ablation should come away and then no more should return. Or if it does, it's only a very small amount.
