Phantom period pains?

Hi all, I keep getting what feel like period pains, but I had a radical hysterectomy in March! It’s very strange, I almost got myself a hot water bottle last night because it honestly felt like I was having cramps.

Now, obviously it’s not, but could it just be the scar tissue settling down? Before my hysterectomy I had a very large cyst removed from my ovary and the phantom pains seem to be the same side/position as the cyst. I was grade 1 stage 1.

i had 25 sessions of precautionary R/T and 2 of brachy which all finished in July. I had my first 3 month check last week and the CT I had in preparation for it was all fine so no need to think it’s anything sinister.

i just wondered if anyone else has experience the phantom pains. I was thinking the other day how I miss my periods, despite bleeding constantly for months and all the palaver that went with it, it’s strange to think they’ve gone forever - apart from phantom cramps!!

Hi chellby. I would phone your cancer nurse just to check to put your mind at rest. I have had some similar pains which I was told would be scar tissue settling down or wind rumbling around trapped in the intestine but I haven't had radiotherapy or psychotherapy like you have. My operation was at the beginning of may but I'm still waiting for the wound to stop exuding and completely heal up so I have had antibiotics on several occasions so I wouldn't like to say that what they told me would apply to you. I'm also 59 so a bit older than you. I see the nurse every other day to have my wound packed and dressed so I'm in constant contact with the medical profession at the moment so feed back my worries through them but seriously I would telephone the CNS just to put your mind at rest. I hope you get it all sorted out..let us know what happens in any case. I will be thinking of you and will keep you in my prayers. God bless hun. Love lamb.xx

Sorry, I don't know what is wrong with my computer tonight. That was meant to read bracytherapy. I didn't mean to imply that you had had psycotherapy.  Please forgive me. If it's not the flipping Sheep bombing about obscuring everything it's the autocorrect!  I'm so sorry chellby. Xxx love lamb. Sheep

Hi Chellby I had my Hysterectomy in Feb 2018 and needed no other treatment and do not even get check ups apart from my 3 month post op one. I suffer from similar in that I had the cramping pains that I normally got when I had my periods - for info I had the menopause a few years ago and had bleeding approx 3 years after. I contacted my CNS and she arranged CT Scans on both occasions - approx 6 months apart but all is ok. As it continued I went to my GP who thinks it may be where they disturbed/moved my bowel during the op and my colon now goes into spasms  -  she's prescribed some pills which seem to have worked although it's still early days where that's concerned.

I also had weird pains after my hysterectomy - it felt like ovulation pain used to feel. I mentioned it to my nurse specialist, and was sent for a CT scan just in case. There was nothing to see. She thought that maybe a bit of ovarian tissue had been left behind and was still trying to ovulate. About a year after my op the pains stopped and all is good now.
If only they warned us about these things in advance, we would be spared a load of worry!
