I've been told that I will be given some special drinks to have before my surgery. Has anyone else had these and is it specifically for hysterectomy? My friend had major surgery on her ankle and leg and didn't have these.

  • Hi Nina,

i didn't get anything to drink, they seem to do things slightly differently by nhs authority area, some folk had a scrub to use before the op, I didn't have that either.

I was given a high carb drink which they said was part of their enhanced recovery program. I had to drink it the night before. Tasted a bit rubbish to be honest Smile

  • Hi , I was like I had a high carb drink done in powders that had to be mixed with water and drank the night before the op. Its all part of the enhanced recovery program as said and yes didn't really taste great, but it did seem to help to have more energy to get you up the next day as I was home the next day.

Hi Nina60. Yes i had one the night before and one in the morning , because my op was delayed they gave me 2 more.  I thought they possibly give you more energy, never had them for any other major surgery.

  • Hi Nina60 I was given 6 drinks as part of the enhance healing program. I have previously have had 2 hip replacements and a gastric bypass and didn't have these drinks - it may be something they have introduced.
