I started to lose a pink discharge last Friday. I knew this wasn’t right as I’m 63 years old and have gone through the menopause. I went to see my GP who wasn’t my normal Dr and after having an internal examination where she told me that my cervix was healthy, she was going to refer me for an ultrasound for endometrial cancer!! I am so worried and frightened as I’ve had bloating of my stomach for a while and have had urinary infections and blood in my urine for over 2 months now and yes after looking on the internet (and I know I shouldn’t have) it does say that these are some of the symptoms for endometrial cancer!! I have had my appointment come through for next Wednesday for my scan but I’m so scared at what they might find. I know if I’d seen my own GP he would not have mentioned cancer to me, as he knows that I’m the worlds worst worrier!! Since going to the Drs I’ve not slept well or eaten well either as I feel sick at the thought of food. My stomach is constantly making noises and I don’t know if this is one of the symptoms too! Please could someone give me something positive to think of.

    Hello Jenny

I know the thought of what is ahead is very scary i was terrified when i started bleeding and had to wait for tests etc i actually had a polyp i had it removed  and that had cancer i was on hols in Sorrento when i was told

I had a hysterectomy last week and am recovering

You do have to face these things though very hard i know but be brave the other girls in this group are lovely and supportive

    And very encouraging

    The days will soon pass

Hi Janny, you will get a lot of women replying to you all saying this same thing: Don't panic!
It is so frightening when someone first mentions cancer, especially if you hadn't thought about it. You have done the right thing in going to the GP, and they have done the right thing in referring you on the 2 week referral just in case it is cancer. It doesn't mean that it is, only that you need to be checked out for it. There are lots of other reasons for your symptoms.
But if it proves to be cancer, still don't panic!. My consultant told me that endometrial cancer is the best one to get, as it is usually removed by a hysterectomy with no need for any other treatment. That's the positive thought - endometrial cancer, caught early, is easily removed.

I'm now 2 years on from my hysterectomy for stage 1A endometrial cancer, I have never felt better - and I know the vast majority of women on this forum will say the same. Try not to panic or worry too much. You will be in good hands and the outlook, whatever they find, is good.

  • Hi Janny,

The stats say that 90% of womb biopsies come back clear so hold onto that for now. womb cancer if found early is often treated with a hysterectomy only, that was the case for me. You have went to the doctor really quickly so you are doing everything you can to get things moving along. Lots of women pass through the group and get the all clear in similar circumstances.

Try your best to distract yourself whilst you wait, keep busy and do the things that you enjoy, some folk knit or sew, bake, clean, anything at all. I'd recommend avoiding google, it only sends you round the twist, stick to this site, cancer research or the NHS.

Whatever the outcome we are here to wait with you.

    lots of love

  • Heya,

I'm not going to repeat what the others have said.

However I just wanted to pop in and suggest that your stomach is making noises because you haven't eaten properly. It could be gas from a change in what you are eating, if you're anything like me, it'll all be easy to grab, and snack on, junk food. Or it'll be because your body is hungry even if your mind is telling you food makes you feel sick.

    Fun huh!

    Hi Lass,

I think that you’re probably right as regards my stomach. I find it difficult to eat full meals at the minute, but find it easier to snack here and there. My way of thinking is at least I’m eating something!

Thank you so much for your reply

  • Oh 100%. Get something in you for sure regardless of how healthy, or not, it is!

You just seemed worried about your stomach making noises, so I was trying to alleviate those worries. Def no judgement here.

    Hi Arla

Thank you for your reply it has helped me a lot.

I did go to the Drs straight away but it does worry me that I’ve had symptoms of discomfort in my pelvic area for at least 3 years and it does worry me that this may have been going on all this time.

I am trying to keep myself busy as you say but am finding it difficult to concentrate on things especially making my jewellery

i won’t be going on google again that’s for sure, I will stick to this site as I find everyone so helpful and positive and that’s what I need right now.

    Thank you for your support.

I hope that you’re doing well since your operation

    love to you too

I was worried about my stomach you’re right!!!

I didn’t think for one minute that you were standing in judgement it’s just nice to talk to someone who can put things into prospective for me instead of me sitting and worrying all the time.

  • Hi Janny,

You have done the right thing by getting to the doctor quickly. My husband has had throat cancer, and my daughter breast cancer, and of the three endometrial cancer seems the best (If you have to have it).

I also think that not sleeping is part of the worrying, as is the eating. I would do whatever suits you best until you have some results. If you feel better snacking. then do it. You can always address diet after this is sorted out.

    All the best xxxx
