Hello all, I wondered if I could ask some advice. My mother finally had her hysterectomy for Stage 1B cancer about a fortnight ago, and has experienced various side-effects of the op since. Nothing really horrible, but in the past few days she has had a feeling of numbness and 'pins and needles' in her lower abdomen and upper thighs. She describes it as similar to nettle rash. This can apparently be a side-effect of the anaesthetic slowly leaving her system, but I just wanted to check if there could be any other cause?
Thank you!
Hi RobeH,
I think what you describe could be what I had, although I'd describe it as 'prickles' rather than 'pins and needles'!! It's the same thing I had with shingles and I think its nerve endings coming back to life!! I very occasionally still get it slightly 2 years afterwards!!! Glad to hear your Mum is getting over it all. xxxx
Another possibility is a reaction to the blood thinning injections if she's doing those. I was fine for about 3 or 4 weeks and then I started to react with an itchy heat rash type sensation. If it goes red and itchy have a word with her CNS to see if she could stop the injections to see if that's the cause.
