Hi everyone,
I am so worried about my mum. She has been experiencing constant bloating of her tummy since May. We recently had an ultrasound and everything looked fine apart from a thickening of her endometrial lining, it was 9mm and as she is post menopause it should have been 5mm or under.
She was referred urgently to a gynaecologist, who did another transvaginal ultrasound and an examination. He found a polyp as well as the thickening. He has scheduled her for a hysteroscopy to remove the polyp and test the cells. We are so worried it is cancer, I am even more worried given the bloating as I keep worrying it has spread to the bowel and that’s why she is bloated :,( She has had no bleeding, and her only symptom prompting the initial tests was the bloating. I lost my dad to cancer nearly 4 years ago and I am so scared it’s happening again.
Helloand welcome to this little corner of the community. I’m so sorry for the reasons you find yourself here. It’s a very worrying time for you and your Mum but you've found a safe place to wait and ask any questions you want. No one can say whether your Mum has cancer or not till the hysteroscopy has been done and the results come back. 90% of all polyps are benign and don’t concern the doctors too much. If it’s found that your Mum does have cancer, it can be very successfully treated in its early stages. Many ladies here have only needed surgery. I sincerely hope that will be the case for your Mum. I won’t say don’t worry because you are. What I will say is try not to second guess anything (I know how hard that can be). Allow yourself a worry time each day then try to focus on the things you and your Mum enjoy and do something fun together or with the wider family. We are happy to wait with you - between us we can worry for England! If the results are good, we will celebrate with you both and if not, we’ll we will be here to support you both. Please let us know how things go. Gentle hugs to you both x
Hi Knicnic,
Sorry you find yourself here.
I had no symptoms other than a couple of small bleeds. Because my husband had throat cancer 13 years ago that taught me a good lesson - to get seen quickly!! I only needed the hysterectomy, and so far, so good after 2 years!! It seems that your Mum has acted quickly, and I'm sure they will sort her out whether its cancer, or not.
As to the thickness of the lining, I'm not sure I put much faith in that! They said mine was OK, but I still had cancer!!!
Keep your chin up. xxxxxxx
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
