I’m 9 months post hysterectomy (stage 1 grade 1) and I have recently been having problems with my legs swelling. It’s my lower legs one more than the other. They become tight and my foot and ankle really noticeably swollen. I didn’t have lymph nodes removed but I wonder if it anything to do with the operation- I’m wondering if anyone else has had this after a hysterectomy without lymph nodes out? Xx
Hi Worried,
To save repeating myself I 've copied my answer from the Lymphedema thread.
You aren't on Amlodipine for blood pressure, are you?
I was fine on a small dose, but when they increased the dose both my legs swelled up and were very uncomfortable. I couldn't bend them to climb over stiles, and couldn't get my calf into my wellingtons. Fortunately the Gp knew what was wrong as soon as I saw him, and he put me on Lercanidipine. I've been fine since.
I have a slight swelling in my left ankle which started 3 months after my operation. I saw 4 different people about it, and no-one seems too worried. It goes down overnight. The doctor said to worry if it gets worse or gets 3 times the size of the other!! And only worry if it pits.(stays depressed when you press it). I'll add I've had lymph nodes out.
Have you asked anyone about it? xxxx
Hello worried45, Sorry to hear this. You know our mantra here - if in doubt, get checked out. It may be the heat or you may have an infection of some kind (cellulitis can cause red, tight skin, for example) Are you on any medication that could maybe cause this? As NannyAnny has said, blood pressure tablets can have thus effect. If you are on any medications your doctor should be able to change the dose to help. It can help to sit with your feet and legs raised and also to rotate your ankles. I hope it’s something that can be sorted out quickly and easily. Please let us know how you get on x
I had lymph nodes removed and a few months after surgery my ankles were swelling considerably. My GP put me on a small dose of Furosemide which has helped but I’ve had to double the dose recently as by tea time my ankles are very puffy. It’s not lymphoedema as there’s no pitting
