Hi
I have recently been diagnosed with Grade 1 Endometrial Cancer by Biopsy. I am waiting to go for a CT scan to Stage it..I am worried as I am not having the MRI scan aswell, the reason for this is I am extremely claustrophobic and having the MRI means sedation. To organise this would take longer, so CT is all that I need. My consultant did speak with the radiologist and said that as it is Grade 1 it should be fine.
I was in complete shock when I go the diagnosis and went into melt down, then was emotionally exhausted aftertelling my family and friends. I am eager to hear about other peoples experiences in relation to grading and staging,
Thankyou
Nina

Hi
I have heard about the Sentinel Node Sampling which I am going to speak to them about. The washing I didn't know about and I eill definately ask them about it. My worry is after the biopsy I had 4 days of bleeding...I feel may be some cancer cells may be in my cervix...I don't know..but I was going to ask if that should be removed also...thankyou for your reply it is very helpful
HI
I am sure that most surgeons will remove the cervix when they do the hysterectomy.
There is more variation as far as lymph nodes is concerned. Sentinel node biopsy, where dye is injected to identify the nearest node to the tumour and only that node is tested at first, seems to be uncommon for womb cancer although it is used a lot for breast cancer.
There is some controversy about the value of removing lymph nodes unless there is a good reason to think they may be affected as there can be a risk of side effects like lymphoedema. So you may want to ask whether they feel node removal is necessary in your case. It is probably not really needed for a Grade 1, early stage cancer. I was grade 2 and had no nodes removed but the histology after surgery showed there was some LVSI (Lymph Vascular Space Invasion) which means that some cancer cells had been found in the lymph channels so I had pelvic radiotherapy to deal with any stray cells.

It’s a rollercoaster for sure but you will find we’ve all been through variations of the same experience on here. I remember my first posts on this forum when I was first diagnosed. It seems ages ago but only 7 months.
I had a CT scan first then MRI. The MRI was really ok. I could see outside the scanner the whole time and music in the earphones helped.
I had sentinel nodes removed and washings but all came back ok. I knew I was grade 3 after the biopsy but after the surgery they confirmed stage 1a
I think I’ve been unlucky in that I am still having abdominal pain and am waiting for more results of swabs and blood tests.
best to take one step at a time and ask lots of questions. My husband was a huge support at all of the consultations
good luck x
I was graded as 1 following a biopsy and then went straight to hysterectomy. I didn't have any scans before or after surgery. I was staged at 1b post operatively based on analysis of the womb tissue in the lab. I was offered and accepted a couple of brachytherapy sessions which my CNS described as just belt and braces to decrease the chance of recurrence. I've since had 3 follow up sessions with an internal examination but they say there is no need for any scanning. I was lucky that there was no evidence of lymph node involvement so maybe that was why they don't feel they need to scan. I think we just have to trust that our medical teams know what they're doing and try not to over think things.
Hey Nina,
Your consultant “should” send a copy of everything to you and your GP. It may be worth a mention when you next see your consultant.
Hopefully now you have advised your GP what is going on they can have support in place should you need it!
i hope the Cancer nurse contacts you soon, mine tend to get back to me within 24 hours!
Wishing you all the luck Xx
Hi, I've had a hysterectomy due to the same condition...in May. I also am extremely claustrophobic about the MRI but your head is outside the machine and it wasn't SO bad....the person doing the scan was so kind ...I cried and said, 'you will not get me in there' but my husband stayed and held my hand....and you hold a button that you can press for the person to get you out when needed.
Have a look at 'chrisbeatcancer' online. I know of a person whose tumours are shrinking on this regime....I am trying to do it as I have space invasion of cells. Interesting to see anyway. Chris Wark.
