Hello there,

i wondered if you knew how long it would take for a 76 year old to get over a radical hysterectomy?

my mum has just been diagnosed with grade 2 endometrial cancer. It has definitely spread to the cervix as there is a large tumour there which isn’t cervical cancer. But otherwise unclear where it has spread to. So I guess it’s at least a 2b.

My mum lives 200 miles away from me on her own. She no longer has close friends living nearby. Do you think it would be a good idea for her to be transferred to addenbrookes (Cambridge where I am) so that she can stay with me for her recovery? Unfortunately (in this instance!) I have two children and a teaching job so I can’t come to her to look after her.

she is otherwise reasonably well apart from type 2 diabetes which has affected her kidneys and eyes slightly.

many thanks for your help x

Unfortunately my mum has now been told that the cancer has spread (close to the rectum). She will therefore need around 6 months of chemo to shrink the tumour before any surgery can be considered.

She is moving to Cambridge for the duration of her treatment.

thank you all for your support and taking the time to write to me! xx

  • Oh hun I’m so sorry to hear about your mums cancer, but at least you know what  is going on now so you can deal with it the best way that suits everyone, I’m glad her treatment will be near you in Cambridge Cos she will really feel better with you there, I really wish her well on her journey bless her, huge hugs to you and your mum please keep us posted and remember we are all here for you both xx

BentleyTheCat, I am sorry to hear that the cancer has already spread, but hopefully the chemo will soon make the tumour smaller! I wish you and your mum the best. Please keep us posted and have a good rest of the week!

  • Hello BentleytheCat

So very sorry to read that your Mum's cancer has spread. What awful news for you both. I hope your Mum has been allocated a clinical nurse specialist to support you both through treatment and beyond. Moving to Cambridge will hopefully make things a little easier for you both. Quite a few of us here have had chemo (me included) so if we can help with that in any way, don’t hesitate to ask.

I’m sure you’re both still reeling from the shock so I won’t go in, but just to say I’m sending you both some gentle hugs and lots of good wishes. x

  • Hi Bentley, I am sorry to hear this news, it must have come as quite a shock to both you and your mum.  But it sounds as though there is a treatment plan, which is good.  You said before that your mum doesn't find it easy to leave the house so I hope that she doesn't find the hospital visits too difficult.  Is she actually going to be living with you in Cambridge or nearby?  Having her nearer will make it much easier for you to support her and I'm sure she will find it a comfort.  I wish you both well.  Steph xx

Hi Bentleythecat. So sorry to read about your Mum but she'll be in very best place to get treatment at Addenbrookes as i know from past experience. I hope they manage to shrink the tumour and can then operate.

    Love

Hi Lara Lou, thank you so much for your message. You’re right - it is a relief to know what is going on. The waiting is torturous! xx

Hi Joanna, thank you very much for your message. I really appreciate it. It is stage IIIc but only grade 2 so it really is at the limit of what they can try and cure. Apparently there is a 50 per cent chance that the tumour will shrink to a curable size. Thank you again for your message.

Hi Fairycake, thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. I really appreciate it. Yes my mum has been allocated a specialist nurse who has been wonderful. It’s a huge help to have a point of contact to call and of course she’s a lovely person- as i’m sure they all are. Thank you again xx
