My time for the op!

My big day is here, I go in this week for my total hysterectomy and node removal by laparoscopy.

Any advice would be gladly appreciated. What to pack? What to expect? Level of pain after? How soon for exercise?

Thanks for your help Green heart

  • Thanks for sharing your experience with me, it's reassuring to know how quickly it's possible to be back on your feet and moving around after and how well you coped with it all.  I too have been sticking to protein and vegetables, but oats for fibre and lots of water. Thanks again for sharing X

  • Thank you Jane for sharing your experience.  That good to know that pain is so minimal afterwards.  I can imagine waiting several hours before the op would be a stressful (and hungry!) time. I'm a bit scared about the catheter to be honest, I hope it doesn't hurt when they pull it out.  I'm glad you were soon back on your feet again. I'm planning on walking again as soon as possible.

  • Yes, that's true.I'll probably sleep soundly with all that GA still in me

  • Hello

Wishing you all the best for tomorrow. It will all be over before you know it.

I hardly had any pain. I don't know what pain relief I had but I woke up in recovery wide awake and very cheerful. I was waving at people on the way back to the ward. Bit embarrassing when I think about it now. But it could have been just sheer relief!

Once the catheter is removed you can move so much more freely. The nurse took mine out very gently and it was only very mild discomfort for a few seconds.

I suggest taking a packet of your favourite biscuits to dunk in your tea. Otherwise it looks like Marmite's list covers it all.

    Big hug to you.

  • Just to say when the catheter came out I felt nothing and was done in seconds

  • Hi doing well thanks - best wishes for tomorrow- it’s good to get it done and be able to move forward! Kissing heart

  • I’ve packed some belvita oat bakes. It does sound a lot less worrying than I initially thought. Thanks for kind wishes x

  • Don't worry about the catheter - the removal takes seconds. Didn't hurt. They just deflate the small balloon part and gently pull it out. It felt a bit like the sensation when you have a wee. The thought was far worse. Hope it all goes well tomorrow and do let us know how you get on
