Hysteroscopy Experiences?

Have you had a hysteroscopy? Did you have it in outpatients or did you have it under general anaesthetic in the day surgery unit? If you had it under GA, did you opt for that straight away or did you have a failed attempts in outpatients first?

I’ve had mine, so this isn’t a “what can I expect?” thread. I’m just interested in other women’s experiences and thought it might also be of interest to others,

I had an operative hysteroscopy last Friday. Under General as the consultant thought I had a large polyp and the plan was just to remove.

Following the procedure he said it wasn't a polyp and that I should use this time waiting on biopsy results to do some research. He said I bled alot during the procedure and since then I have no energy, my muscles feel exhausted all the time, can't think straight and I just feel empty.

My GP did a blood test yesterday and said I'm anaemic so has put me on iron but I presume it's not that bad otherwise they'd take more drastic action surely? Be nice to talk to them but all done via text thanks to covid.

I'm terrified but at the same time feel like a fraud as I don't even have biopsy results yet.

  • Bless you Emsie, hopefully the iron will kick in soon and you will gradually start to feel better. Did the consultant say whether the biopsy results will be given to you by them or via your GP? If not, you could phone the consultant’s secretary and ask, and also ask how soon you might hear. I got mine two weeks and two days afterwards via a phone call from a doctor at the hospital.

I have a zoom call with the Consultant on 31st Jan to get the biopsy results

  • Hi SpoiltEmsie . I realy hope you get your results soon. We can all vouch on here that the waiting is awful. I've tried to keep my life outside of hospitals as normal as possible. And I've certainly had my moments but you will find tremendous support on here! Keep talking and ask as many questions as you want. Stay safe. Best wishes .

  • Hi SpoiltEmsie, I think the feeling-like-a-fraud thing happens anyway. I felt like a fraud because my cancer was an early stage and I compared myself to others who had a more aggressive disease. Maybe it is part of how our minds cope with the worry. Best wishes and good luck for your results.

  • Emsie, I’m thinking of you as you wait for the 31st - I’ve found all the waiting extremely stressful and anxiety-causing and feel for you. Have you been put in touch with your specialist nursing team for support? Mine have been lovely.
