Hi had vulva operation in March to be told I had cancer. Said margins were good, but would be best to remove groin lymph nodes on both side which happened in June. Got a clear which was great, ended with infection and drains didn't work properly. Wasn't great for about 3 weeks after operation. Its now September and still feeling tired, legs and groin sore if I do too much. Also very weepy at times. When should I feel like my old self again. Thanks for listening x

  • Hi Layla22.   it will take quite a while to recover.  The symptoms you are describing sound very similar to mine at this point time.  Have you spoken to your specialist nurse at the hospital.

  • Just thought I would give you an update. Been for my first appointment today. A month after surgery.  My lymp nodes were not cancerous so no more treatment. Next appointment  3 months to have regular  checks ups. Such a relief. Hope your ok

  • Hi I had surgery in August and I am struggling to come to terms with it. I only had 8 weeks off post surgery before I needed to go back to work and it is still a struggle now sitting behind a desk. I have ended up with pain and I look such a mess I feel like a freak and don't want my husband anywhere near me. It is difficult to explain to someone who hasn't been through it.

  • So sorry your feeling like this but I know how you feel. I had a cancerous lump on my vulva and had my lymph  nodes out  on each groin. My surgery  was 9 weeks ago and still get pain in my legs and find sitting down painful  after about an hour. My first day at work was yesterday. When I came back had so much pain in my legs and back. Thought I was OK but not.Not going back again yet.

  • I am having a bad day today like you. Feeling like is my life ever going back to being something normal again. I don't go out only to do shopping if somebody comes with me and my bed is still downstairs because I find it hard to get upstairs.

  • Hi this is layla. How are you feeling now. I had a cancerous lump removed and my lymp nodes out on each groin. It's been 9 weeks since surgery  and still get a lot of pain. I went back to work yesterday. Bad idea. Thought I would be OK. I was in that much pain in my legs and back when I finished. Not going back in the near future. Feeling like will I ever be able to do things again. How long was it for you when you started to feel stronger and start doing things again

  • Hi finally how are you feeling . Its been 9 weeks since my surgery  to remove cancerous lump and lymph  nodes removed from each groin.I went back  to work yesterday. Bad idea. • Hi, I’m 8 weeks post op and still getting pain in my groins when sitting and walking. I’m trying to walk my little dog a little bit each day as I need to walk her. I’m having to use a walking stick, not something I like to do aged 57!! The GP has signed me off for a further 6 weeks as I’ve got an open wound near my operation site due to dissolvable stitch coming out too soon. Im seeing my surgeon every 3 months as all my tests post op came back clear thankfully!! I hope you are both soon feeling better

  • Good your getting there.Im 57 aswell.  My.surgeon said he had managed to remove all my cancer  so very pleased about that. My next appointment is in February. Some days I get no pain then others alot of pain..He said there is pre cancerous cells around my vulva which they have to keep an eye on. They could turn cancerous or just stay as they are. Do you use any cream  and what have you been told to wah yourself with. I was told only wash myself with warm water and don't use any creams ,just keep myself dry.

  • Hi Layla22, like yourself I’ve been told to only use warm water to wash myself. I pat myself dry and use the hairdryer on a cool setting to make sure I’m completely dry around the vulva site. When I next see my surgeon on 25th January I’ll ask if I can use non scented soap or feminine wash cos I don’t feel clean with just water!! I’ve not had any problems with infection, only in drainage site on left side but that is 99% healed. Hope you stay well and they keep an eye on you as they said they will Blush
