I have been complaining of severe pain since October 2019. Im 44 with three kids & terrifed. Started as what felt to me like severe swelling of my left labia, went to Gp then reffered to Gyne had swabs, abdominal & transvaginal ultrasound and a sigmodiscopy. These tests were done between Novemeber to January and during that time my pain was getting worse, severe vulva, hip, groin & inner thigh pain which is 24/7. In December I had a pelvic MRI which showed a " incidential finding of Barthoilin Cyst" didnt get the results until febuary I was then seen by a NHS Gynecologists who said its not a bartholins cyst and referred me to the vulva clinic who told me that it is a bartholins Cyst but is so small its not the cause of my pain and discharged me with no other diagnosis or solution. This was in March of this year.

I have since paid private and seen two gynecoligists who have both said its not a Barhloin Cyst. The lump I have is deep under the vulva tissue and is extremly painful all the time. I cant even sit its so painful. During these last eight months I have had endless visits to A&E, Doctors appointments hospital appointments and seen several Nurse's. Three weeks ago I tried explaining to my Gp my level of pain and told him I have seen two private Gynecologists and what they said and to be honest my Gp didnt really listen and tried to convince me to take Nerve Pain medication. My Gp said he can't refer me anywhere now due to COVID-19.  I refused the Gabapentin  medication as I dont believe its nerve  there is a painful lump under my labia skin the size of a small marble. I feel as if my level of pain & worries are constantly being dismissed. I have now taken matters into my own hands & have arranged a Private Pelvic MRI and hoping for a accuate diagnosis. I'm losing my mind and due to the stress losing loads of weight.

I have been left with such confusion and worry to the point that it is affecting my mental well being. Having loads of time of work due to pain. I constantly google to search for solutions.  I have read that women over 40 with a Bartholin Gland Cyst should have a biopsy, however its difficult as only one out of four gynecologists have said it is a BC cyst.

Its important when you know something is wrong to follow your gut feeling and be your own advocate.

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to hear how much pain you're in and how hard you're finding getting a diagnosis.

I have no experiences with this type of pain to share with you but I noticed that your post hadn't had any responses yet. By replying to you it will bump it back to the top of the page where it'll be more easily seen.

You haven't said when you're having your MRI scan but I do hope that this enables you to find out what is causing the pain. Did one of the consultants you saw suggest that having an MRI would identify the cause of your pain? I presume that you'll be seeing a consultant to get the results interpreted for you and to agree a treatment plan.

Do come back and let us all know how you get on.

    Hello,

Thank you for your message. I had my MRI on monday & I have recieved a detailed report. It shows as a cyst. I have  sourced a highly reputable gynecologists who has done on telephone consultation reviewed the written MRI report & looked over the images. I now have an appointment scheduled next week for a physical examination. And he said he will then decide the best course of treatment.

Thank you once again for your message.

  • That's great to hear that it's a cyst and not something cancerous!

I wish you well with your treatment.
