Discovered lump

Good morning,

I have been having scans because of pain after weeing and everything appeared normal. My Dr has referred me to gynaecologist with suspected endometriosis and I have an appt on the 22nd November.  However I have just discovered a round hard lump that I can roll between my fingers in the vulva area. It is slightly bigger than pea sized. I am now really scared that it's something dodgy.  Did anyone's cancer start off with a similar lump.

  • Hi ,

My symptoms started with an itch and then later I developed burning. I did have a tiny lump, it was more like a pimple than pea size. It could be different for other people.  Perhaps you could ask your GP to take a look? Hopefully just to put your mind at rest, but the one thing I’ve learnt is it’s always best to have things checked.

Very happy to answer any questions if you have any Slight smile

  • Hi Robin,

I had a lump which started the size of a pea and ended up the size of a plumb 8 months later (first found in early lockdown 2020). I initial 2 week referral lost in covid, chased in late October, had a MRI in December and told non cancerous, but needed removing. Op 4th Jan 2021 and 3 weeks later told i had Leiomyosarcoma. Another op late March to excise the area to get clear margins. I'm now over a year with no further evidence or lymph node evidence.

Keep chasing and hopefully it's just a cyst at worst.

  • Thank you both for your replies.  I saw the Dr on Tuesday who thinks may be a cyst.  She gave me antibiotics (not sure how that helps a cyst!) and told me to call back in 7 days. There is no change so far and I read that women over 40 should always be offered further rests. I am 48.

  • Hi ,

How are you getting in now? If the antibiotics don’t work then you could request further investigations.  Hopefully it is nothing to worry about, but if you’re concerned then don’t be afraid to be persistent and insist you’re referred to be checked by a specialist.

  • Hi, thank you for reply.  The antibiotics have made no difference, the lump is still there.  I plan on following your advice and asking for further tests, I just hope I can be persistent enough. I read that if you are over 40 they should be investigating further.

  • Hi ,

It can be hard to be persistent, but will be worth it for peace of mind. Hopefully it won’t come to that though and your GP will just refer you.

Please do let us know how you get on if you feel comfortable to do so.

    Good luck,

  • Hi Robin, please ask them to refer you for an MRI, my doctors put me straight on the 14 day emergency referral .

Don't etc them fob you off, it may take up to a month with backlogs but if antibiotics aren't working, then this is a must

  • Hi Krazychrissy

At the moment i have been referred for an ultrasound under urgent 2 week referral.  Really starting to worry now.  My husband has just finished treatment for head and neck cancer and was misdiagnosed for a year. I am struggling to be positive now.

  • Hi Robin, your doing great! You have a referral which is the best thing. I fully get how hard this is, but keep talking, it's what gets us through.

The scan will give you a swers you need and next steps, keep positive.

Sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis too, glad he's getting through treatment he needs.

    Sending hugs x

  • Had my ultrasound today and they were really confused as to why the Dr had referred me for an ultrasound as they don't normally do in that area!  They tried really hard to get a good image then said they could see a mass but could not tell what it was and said they would recommend to GP I see a gynaecologist.  So looks like more referrals and more waiting.  I am worried that all the waiting will have an impact if it does turn out to be something nasty.
