Squamis cell carcinoma

I remember speaking to you before, and I’m sorry to read you have had a diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma now confirmed. You are correct about radiation not normally being done to the same area where you have already had radiation, but I also recall that you said surgery was ruled out as you’ve been told the area would not heal.

It is possible to have chemotherapy more than once, so this may be an option for you, but your doctor will be able to advise on what treatment might be possible this time round. 

I know from experience how difficult it is to have a recurrence diagnosed, so I’m really sorry you have to face this again. Do you have an appointment arranged to discuss a proposed treatment plan with your consultant?

Thanks for responding Sarah. Chemo sounds much better to me than surgery.   I have an appointment with my gyn oncologist this Wednesday.  

It’s good you don’t have long to wait until your appointment. Normally, your results will have gone to an MDT (multi disciplinary team) meeting where all the people involved in your care will have discussed everything and come up with a plan for you.

I had my PET SCAN today.  I meet with the Medical oncologist Wednesday.   If no other option, my surgeon said she would work with a plastic surgeon who would do a skin flap since my radiated skin won't hold stitches.  Has anyone had a skin flap on radiated skin?
