Any feelings after surgery

Hi Happy Sunday, I am so sorry you are going through this and hope you have good family support.  I had the same operation three years ago and it does affect your emotions.  One of my lymph nodes in my groin was swollen.  Fortunately it was just clear liquid and nothing to worry about.

It took the swelling round the stitches quite a long time to lessen. I managed to go to the toilet ok.  I am too old now to worry about periods but can imagine that is an added complication.  Poor you, My heart goes out to you.

It is early days for you having only just had surgery, don’t be hard on yourself, rest when you can, which isn’t easy with a toddler,  I hope your teenager can realise what you are going through and help you.  If you have any worries or questions then please ask.  We are here for you and will try to help you.  Sending hugs .

• It isn't easy, I'm 4 months since my WLE & 7 lymph nodes removed. Feeling a lot better but still can't sit properly, need a cushion. Be gentle and keep clean just with warm water, no soap. Dry on cold hairdryer setting. Peri bottle & sitz bath is comforting. Being patient and rest often is best. No heavy lifting. You'll get there. 

Sorry to jump on this thread.  Four months!!!  Oh my.  Guess I need to rethink my recovery time.  I was expecting to be ok by 2 months post surgery.  

Hey, sorry to hear you’re having such a difficult time and I really hope you start to feel on the mend soon. 
Could i just ask how long the surgery itself takes? My consultant says I’ll be home the same day so assuming it’s quite quick? Xx

Mine took nearly 3 hours as she couldn't find my lymph nodes, I stayed overnight just 1 night, home next afternoon. Most don't take long just depends if any complications. 

Are you having WLE and lymph nodes removed? 

My surgery was 3 hours.  I was in hospital from Tuesday to Saturday as my blood tests were low in sodium, so I had to eat crisps.

Thanks for sharing. I’m having the WLE on the 21st. The Dr said that once that’s sent off then he’ll know about future surgery. 
Also sorry to question more but how’s your recovery? Dr said should be all back to normal after 2 weeks but reading from people that have actually had the procedure it seems a lot longer

My recovery took several weeks as I had infections and stitches came apart, so that extended my recovery. 

If you have no infections and your stitches stay in then you should be feeling better after a couple weeks. 

Don't plan on doing anything the first few weeks, rest lots, take it easy and take paracetamol and ibuprofen if needed. 

If they don't remove lymph nodes, and you're young, you should recover fairly quickly xx

I think your doctor is gaslighting you!!  From my research it’s at least 4-6 weeks and more if complications.

I’m planning 8 weeks off work and then reassess my health.  

I thought he seemed very optimistic. I explained to him that my job is very physical, that I’m on my feet all day and average 18,000 steps a day and he said I should feel pretty much normal after 2 weeks and back to work after 4. 
Work have been lovely and said I’ll get full pay for up to 3 months as long as I get a sick note but this is the part that concerns me, would I get a sick note if he’s saying I’ll be ok? 
again sorry for all the questions but I’m new to this and quite confused and worried.
