Any feelings after surgery

Hi, I’m new here. Had surgery last week for wide local excision of vulva, plus sentinel lymph nodes removal on both sides. Cancer was thought to be grade 1b and will be confirmed when I get the results from the LN’s.

Just need to go, arggghhhh this recovery is hard! One of the lymph scars are swollen and my groin is so swollen and bruised. Going to the toilet is so hard, and I just got my period. I’m feeling so lost, I had a follow up call from the enhanced recovery nurse but wonder how I should feel? Is it normal for the cuts to be swollen?

My emotions are all over the place.

i have a teenager who has hardly acknowledged what I’m going through and a toddler who is very sweet but has kicky legs and a lot of energy.

just wanted any advice from anyone who has been here. Thanks x

Hi Happy Sunday, I am so sorry you are going through this and hope you have good family support. I had the same operation three years ago and it does affect your emotions. One of my lymph nodes in my groin was swollen. Fortunately it was just clear liquid and nothing to worry about.

It took the swelling round the stitches quite a long time to lessen. I managed to go to the toilet ok. I am too old now to worry about periods but can imagine that is an added complication. Poor you, My heart goes out to you.

It is early days for you having only just had surgery, don’t be hard on yourself, rest when you can, which isn’t easy with a toddler, I hope your teenager can realise what you are going through and help you.
