Worried about Lump!

Hey guys,

I have a big lump inside my vagina, I'm having a lot of back and womb pain. My left leg is also swollen. The lump itself is rock hard at the bottom and covered by what feels like a water balloon. I've had a Bartolin's cyst before but this feels nothing like it! I've just gone through the menopause and I haven't had any bleeding, just awful bloating, running to the loo and th awful pain! I've  realised I've had this lump for years, I never paid it much notice as I thought it was part off my anatomy it was so hard! I had been having pain after sex and feeling sick but I ve so many other ailments it didn't register (I had a 3cm benign lump removed from my thyroid in Nov). I've booked with my gp for next week but I'm really worried...hoping it will be a cyst or maybe prolapse. Apologies for asking but what did everyone's lump feel like? This feels weird, there's at least 2cm thickness of rock hardness running the whole length of my vaginal wall, then the whole thing is enclosed in a massive watery balloon.

  • Oh really? It didn’t sound from your description like a Bartolin’s cyst but I’m no doctor! No possible explanation for the pain and bleeding then?

Maybe a hysteroscopy? A little camera going up there to take a look and check your womb. I’m a bit surprised to be honest that you’re to wait another 2 months before anything further is done when your life is being so badly impacted. I really thought you might get some further investigations at this point. It does sound positive, but lI can understand why you’re wary.

  • Yes I'm feeling very wary as you're supposed to view a Bartolin's Cyst as sinister in post menopausal women, it can be cancerous too. She said she can't treat it unless it becomes hard and infected and I would have to try antibiotics first. My womb thickness suggests menopause so why the bleeds and yes that pain is coming from somewhere...I have a horrible feeling if the hysteroscopy shows nothing, they'll stick a coil in and send me back to my Gp. I just think that if this is the beginning off something it is not going to be picked up! She never even mentioned the the long tube like growth behind the cyst! Anyhow let's go with the positive that's there atm, cervix good! The battle shall continue!! Hope you're feeling ok!!! xx

  • Hi

It’s so puzzling you’re not really getting on any further with this considering how many months you’ve already been waiting and in pain. Did you get antibiotics to treat the cyst and then wait for the hysteroscopy or will you get an appointment for the hysteroscopy regardless of having the antibiotics? Did you tell her about the growth behind it?

It must be hard to go even with the positives when there’s more waiting and still no diagnosis, but if she suspected cancer I imagine further tests would be scheduled, so that does seem a positive. It will be hard for you after being fobbed off with your thyroid. Things like that do shake us and make us less confident when we believe something is wrong and we’re told there’s not!

I’m doing ok thanks-counting down to get Christmas Day over with!

  • No antibiotics unless it's infected, it will just be left there to grow and fester I guess! Sorry just fed up with the pain that I'm not 'supposed ' to be having.I get you with Xmas...can't be over quick enough!! Hope you have a quiet one!! xx

  • Well, I can’t begin to understand why you’re not being referred for a scan or any further investigations at this point after all this time. Having had a dangerous misdiagnosis myself this year, I’m very wary now. I hope you’ve got some pain relief at least.

I hope you can at least enjoy the day tomorrow with your wife and daughter!

  • Thanks, me neither! Depression hitting hard tbh, just feel like crying all the time, ! xxdon't see myself getting relief anytime soon, been here many times! Will go see doc after Xmas to get some help with my mood and get counselling sorted! I.def need some help with this before I go nuts!! The daughter is very excited lol we've been dog sitting her pup and oh dear lord he's crazy

  • This is just so sad to read-it must be so horrible for you living like this and I can’t even imagine how difficult it is. It would be a good idea to get help in managing your mood, but I hope that’s not another thing you might have to wait ages for.

Dog sitting will keep you occupied-don’t think I could cope with a puppy these days! Two cats are quite enough for now.

  • Hey how are you getting on? Was Christmas as quiet as you'd hoped?! I'd 3 day's off mayhem..and not the fun kind, finished off with my daughter back in Hospital for an accidental paracetamol overdose. She's on so much medication atm and she just doesn't understand how serious it is to make sure it's spaced out, anyhow she's out now and doing well. Going crazy with a hard painful lump in the lower part off my ear now so back to Gp next week, hopefully some sort of infection! Really need to catch a break and what I wouldn't give for a decent sleep!! x

  • Hi

Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry to hear about your poor daughter-I’m glad to read she’s ok now but what a scare for you! And you've got even more to contend with now with yet another issue and dr’s appointment-it really must seem never ending.

All ok here thanks. Christmas Day was eventful in some ways which I won’t go into, but I enjoyed my Christmas dinner and the following days have been peaceful.

I hope you can have a much better year coming up where you get answers and solutions to all of our issues-you definitely need a break.

  • Glad you managed to get a few peaceful days in! Same here have had a nice few day's not doing much although I've started trying to go for little walks with the cats (Yup lol!) In the back field, it has been nice! I used to be quite active and outside most off the time but the past few year's have hit my mobility hard! Back to physio in the New Year yuk! Yes back to the Dr with more stuff, pain is ridiculous although no more bleeding thank god! Wondering how soon this Gynae appointment will appear and need to keep on top off getting those biopsy results! Oh the joy!! xx
